    Hi,

The gun port lids were numbered because they had to be individually adapted to the wales
    then the hinges were installed

afterward they were painted and the eyelet was installed

The figurehead were painted and glued into position. I think it's OK

here i milled the groove for the brass profile

I had to bend and solder a brass ring to prepare the anchors. Then the ring was wrapped with rope

the victory lettering was stuck in position. after that i started assembling the rudder

and here is the finished result

Now that the hull was reasonably finished I started with the masts
First I started with the bowsprit.
I have made all masts from five individual parts so that they cannot twist

That was it for today again

    Hi,

At the stern gallery i put on the individual parts to convince myself of the fit

When i was satisfied i glued the parts in place

Then i sanded the fenders and chesstrees and glued it on their place

I made the black stripes between the windows from black cardboard

Now i painted the stern trophy of arms
    and mounted it

after that i was able to finish the side gallery

the next was the side entry port and the steps

When assembling the chainplates I saw that some of the length didn't fit
so I had to recreate them

    Helli

    1st planking done.
Needs some filler. Overall happy with outcome. Will pay special attention to area mext to keel so that 2nd planking would drop nicely next to keel.
Stern needs some balsa block for 2nd planking.

I would say that Cruiser has more difficult planking that Terror.

Hi all, and thanks to all the guys who commented and Liked this build. Now that it's finished I guess I'd better post the final pics - I'd forgotten about them  :

Yes I did  . Thanks for the replies guys  .

Speaking of problems - I found a doozy. A long time ago, when I was building the front bogie, I made this drum-like piece which turns out to be part of the steering mechanism :

This is the only diagram of this part - nothing in further diagrams to show how it fits, so at the time I put it aside with the thought it may become more obvious later in the build. Unfortunately it should have been fitted much earlier before I'd fitted the main axles and wheels, as the front axle is supposed to go through the middle of it. How to fix the problem?

I approached the dilemma with the thought in mind of leaving it off altogether if I couldn't work out a solution. There was no way I could easily remove the axle as it was attached to the wheels with CA glue - impossible to remove without causing major damage to already fitted parts. In addition the crank and a few other parts would also have to come off.

I came up with the idea of splitting the drum in half and slipping it over the axle. If the idea didn't work then I'd have had to leave it off, but at least I wouldn't have damaged anything else. The sequence below shows how I did it. First pic is of the axle it had to fit around and the seemingly impossible place it was in :

Removing the two hexagonal ends was fairly easy, as I hadn't scraped off the clear coat. A single-edge razor blade did the trick :

After cleaning everything up the three pieces went on relatively easily :

    All done  :

Beef Wellington got a reaction from mtaylor in Studding sail booms and yards
Hi Rob, the various studdingsail booms were simply stored on their respective yard, but secured inboard to the actual yard with a lashing.  The lower booms are secured in the iron hoops on the forward part of the channels so they can rotate outboard - whether these were "permanently" stored there is a question.  I suspect that these would have rigged according to need, as they seem to be rather exposed and awkward alongside the hull given interference with the deadeyes - just my thoughts as can't find any reference to this.

Next is the funnels, with the resin replacements. Still will require some scratch building here for external steam pipes and rigging plus etching

Salt streaks, a bit more alge in the waterline and sone bright rust around the anchor platforms. It probable looks a little much by by the time everything else is added it should drown out the detail

Weathering part 2, chipping. Rubbing back the base coat to the hull coat.

    So, highlights,
    dulling down with sea blue

overspray of grey for paint fade. Chipping next it actually looks OK with the Mk1 eyeball.

It may not look like much but the base rust coat applied. Once I’ve applied a matte coat I can begin chipping fluids then start painting him black. That won’t be till next week when I’m off work again. My plan is to now start on some f the other hull structures that won’t need sever be weathering.

So not much done today as gardening took priority. The Svestapol set has a heap of thin little steel railings that are used on her deck. Perfect for non slip footings that are used on the anchor storage area.
the housings amidships, I’ve painted in the windows and masked them off. A day of primer then a base rust coat next. Hopefully I can make it look a bit better than the old rough kit it is now.

I did a few mistakes with my coppering but i am overall happy with the result. Its the 2nd ship i do this on so i am still learning but now i feel comfortable for the next time (Diana). The kit included two sheets of copper and its plenty of metal over.  These sheets are way better than the Caldercraft version so i might have to upgrade for my future builds....
