Beef Wellington reacted to Blue Ensign in 18th Century English Longboat by Blue Ensign - FINISHED - Model Shipways - 1:48 Scale
Thanks mobbsie, had a couple of good days but came back before Storm Brian came in. Didn't fancy 17miles of road works and narrow lanes on the M6 in bad weather.
Thwarts n'all
I replaced the soft Limewood strip with Boxwood.
In considering the thwart dimensions I would suggest that the kit instructions be ignored as their dimensions are incorrect.
Go by the plans and have a look at Chuck's log of his build.
The plans show thwart widths of 4.5mm and 6.5mm (for the wider mast thwart) I cut this out of some wider stuff and shaped the central mast support section.
1732
Thwarts trial fitted but not finished.
As can be seen in the photo the process has resulted in some scuffing of the paint, but this is only a first coat.
1735
1733
1736
Still pondering whether to paint the stern sheets or leave them varnished, but I have decided to leave the thwarts in their natural state.
1822
Before the thwarts are fitted it is a good time to set the heel chock for the mast. I made mine from a bit of Boxwood stuff with a square cut mortise to take the mast heel.
Thwarts one - three from the bow can now be glued in position.
I will now leave the fitting of the remaining thwarts until I have made and fitted the Windlass.

Beef Wellington reacted to Kevin in HMS Fife by Kevin - Fleetscale - 1/72 - County-class destroyer - SOLD
Good evening everyone
this weekend the bridge module was made
took three attempt to get it looking right,
im quite pleased how it is coming together now
the awkward bit was putting the skin on as it splits, the upper part around the bridge winds, where as the lower part wraps around the base

Beef Wellington reacted to Kevin in HMS Fife by Kevin - Fleetscale - 1/72 - County-class destroyer - SOLD
good evening everyone
I forgot to post build progress last weekend
I moved to the forward superstructure, as i want to keep the project at or around the same amount of progress,
so with my modified light box a set of plans and a piece of plasticard, off I jolly well went
at the efter end of the fwd section there is a split level deck, there is access doors and ladders down the main deck
this is not my photo
but you can see behind the boat the area i am on about
to finish the weekend off I made the support area for the fwd mast
this weekend the Bridge area's turn
as of last Sunday she looks like this, slowly beginning to look like something

Jim, you have some real talent, I'm not an art critic either to explain why, but your colour balance, cloud and water effects which are notoriously difficult to do well are to my taste, and work especially well in watercolour medium - oh, and the ships look good too!. Would love to see more.

So here is the counter timbers, fillers and QB light port completed and rough faired inside and out.
I also added some thick batterns internally to help support this framing.

Love what you've achieved with the masts, cleats and tops, should all look stunning all in place. The deadeye plates do look convincing, nicely done.

Great pictures, especially like the close up view of the stern. I was going to use exactly the same approach for the chain so nice to see it work so well. Now I've "been there and nearly done that" I can appreciate your craftsmanship even more BTW, I think you are referring to the binnacle (?)

Catching up Jim, everything looks really good especially the rigging. Which manufacturer made the anchor kit from? - it looks well formed and very clean.
Just noticed you're in Edinburgh, I used to live in a tiny flat on St Stephen St in Stockbridge many years ago.

Thank you Mark, thing is, galleries are not that keen to exhibit my type of paintings. You really have to have an interest in the sea and ships. This one for example isn't every ones cup of Tea. I called it 'Keeping The Few Flying' featuring HMCS CHILLIWACK.

Hi Jim;
If I was at an exhibition of local artists' work, and saw your paintings, I would have to buy at least one to take home with me, and preferably more. The only limit would be budget!
Lovely atmosphere in your work.
Keep on picking up that brush!
All the best,
