Moving on -- I have finished up Chapter 7 today. A couple of pictures are below that show the current state of affairs. There were a lot of little parts to this Chapter and a lot of detail in those pumps & handles but I think everything turned out OK. Now its time to fix up a few little details, do a little clean up, and read Chapter 8 again. Steve

Thanks for the comments Frank. Your doing some beautiful work on your build also. Looks fantastic!!!! Vlad Thank you..... The ornaments are the resin ones. I just used a wood stain. Try some different shades on the back side to find something you like. I just brushed it on, let it set for a bit, then brushed them off with a clean soft brush to remove any excess. Mine are a little more 'orange' than I was looking for but they are growing on me. The pics were before any Wipe On Poly. Looks a little better now. 😉 Steve

Hello everyone. Just another update as I see it's been a while. As in way over due. Anyway I'm still here and moving along but at a snails pace it seems. I have finished up Chapter 5 with the exception of attaching some of the cannon lids. I also have all of the cannon built up & ready to go. I have a small start of Chapter 7. The forward walls are not attached yet as they still need a little work. This is where I am as of now. I have to thank everyone that has gone way ahead of me as it really helps with a lot of the little things. Hope everyone is keeping warm.... Steve

Hello everyone: Got a little shop time the last few days and was able to get the rudder finished and installed. It was pretty straight forward. I also only used 2 pins in the top & bottom hinge. It is still removable & I will probably do that so I don't damage it down the road. I tend to be pretty good at that..... I used a 1/4" stick to hold the hinges to thin them down. It was easier of me to do it off the ship and get them painted before installing them. Again, this was to save possible damage to the hull. One side is shown thinned below.... After that of course was the rudder trunk and benches. All of that was pretty easy thanks to Chucks talent with the laser cutter. And the lower window trim was simple enough, just a lot of trial & fitting. Up next are the gun port covers and hinges. Something tells me I'll have a lot of trial & error with those before I'm satisfied. 👍 Steve

I have finally finished up Chapter 4 so I thought it was time for an update. There was nothing to unusual for me but I did follow Mikes lead and kept all of the deck fittings removable. This really helped with the sanding & finishing of the deck. So now it's time to clean up the shop & do some review of Chapter 5. A whole new set of challenges...... Hopefully I'm am done making so much sawdust for a while. Steve

This has to be one of the finest builds of the Syren I've seen. Hard to believe this is only your second build. Congratulations on a fantastic build.

I'm still here -- still making progress but at a pretty slow pace. We bought a new house so the shop has taken a back seat for a while. I had not noticed how long it had been since I posted anything. The picture shows where we are today. Nothing is glued to the deck yet and still have a lot of fitting to do with the margin planks. We're getting there.

Just a quick update to mark the end of Chapter 3. I admit I was not looking forward to doing the pillars and the tops & bottoms to them, along with the roof rails, but everything turned out OK -- at least for me. Now it is time to clean up the shop to get ready for Chapter 4.

Hello everyone. It's been a while since my last update so I thought I would take a little time to get that done. I finally got those window pillars done of the sides. They didn't turn out to bad - at least for me. I'm happy with them. I kind of like the blue windows. LOL I don't think I will keep them... I still have to finish up the pillars on the rear to finish that up. Then the rails on the roof to finish up Chapter 3.

Hey Greg Welcome aboard. That's the same saw that I used for my bulkheads and other stuff. It works pretty good and I have had no issues. Make your cuts just outside the lines of your patterns and then sand down to the lines. It takes a little longer but the way it all fits together makes it well worth the time. Good luck and I look forward to your progress. Steve

I'm still here and slowly chugging along. I guess I have been slow to post anything. I didn't realize how long it had been since my last post but here a few pics of where things stand as to today. I guess the only thing I'm having an issue with are the little pieces that go above the roof and also the upper and lower parts of the pillars. No matter how many I make I don't seem to find any I like, let alone try to make 12 of them that look similar. I'll get it sooner or later... Hope things are good in your part of the world. Also everyone else out there.... Be safe....

Chapter 2 is now complete. I broke/ruined my fair share of planks but I think everything turned out pretty good. I preferred a little darker seams so I ran a pencil on both sides of the planks. Below are a few photos to show where we are currently. Now it is time for a small break and do a review of Chapter 3. It will be a nice change of pace from the planking for a while.... I hope everyone out there is doing good and dealing with this virus. These are indeed strange times but we will get thru it.....
