Looking for a source for either shipyard or nautical (19th to early 20th century) figures.  My model is 1" = 32" scale = figures would ideally be between 2" & 2.25" in height.  Any idea where I can find some?

Many thanks!

Thanks, Andy - will give that a try.  Those are about 1:29 scale give or take?

Remember "Back in the day" before fast food and national heath programs we where on average shorter and thiner than we are today, so a slightly smaller stance might actually be more to SCALE than the model requires.

I searched quite a bit when building my Emma C. Berry.  Tough to find, but I bought a set of "workers" from some rail road site...info lost when the log disapeared with the MSW server crash.  You want a Guage One figure but if you find 1:35 that would be better.  People were smaller 150 years ago.  I have several figures left over.  Send me a PM and I'll send pics.  I'll give you any one you want.

Harvey & Kevin - Thanks!  Will do some digging there.

Fenous - you are more than welcome to apply for any open positions, though the accomodations may be a tad cramped for you... ;)

Andy Taylor - appreciate that - you are in my old stomping grounds there!  Went to College at Roger Williams (back in the "good old days" when it was a much smaller college!)

Maury - will send you a message, and THANKS!!!

When I saw this thread name, I thought I would volunteer, but now I know it`s real purpose :-)

I thought the same thing.  Turn's out we're a little tall for the job.

Speaking of figures....Kester, you didn't happen to keep any of that great story about the demise of the Royal Caroline's Captain, did you?

That lengthy community tale of mystery and suspense (with the occassional dry pun thrown in for good measure) was among the most entertaining stories I have seen in many a year.  Would love to see it resurected (the story, not the Captain, that is)

Oh yes.... That was the intent of my query :)

I recall the enjoyment and laughs that everyone had with it, and although nothing was done at the time, it would be great for it to become a permanent part of MSW.

Well, ok – or at least I think so. I've just been having a look around my files and find that for some weird reason I seem to have kept some of it, but not all! :( However, all is not lost (well actually, some of it seems to be) as I have it printed out and can probably resurrect the missing parts again – given a few cups of coffee and infinite will power, deep into the night. You'll have to bear with me.

Actually, perhaps we should first ask Admin and the Mods what they think of the idea of me taking up screeds of the site capacity?  :o If they agree then fair enough. On thinking more about this, perhaps there might be a dedicated thread for such offerings from members, if they feel so inclined, perhaps to include short stories, articles, or even poems about the sea, rather than put in on the General Discussion thread. Would this be a good suggestion?

In the meantime, I would be interested in the number of those who want to read my story again. :D

Kester,

I am one of your fans here!  :piratetongueor4:  Indeed, there seems to be no dedicated forum area... maybe something to ask in the site pb/suggestion area? Well, we wait for your stories in the General discussion anyway...

I left my opinion on the other thread, I think it has merit..... And should be given a place of distinction around here (the story, not my opinion :P)

Kevin,

Whoa! Perhaps we should just get this one out of the way first, since there would appear to be some demand – then I might think about it.

There are litterarly thousands of 54 mm or 1:32 scale figurines in either white metal or plastic (hard or soft) on the market. One has to look a bit around other fora for this. They come in whole figures or also as separate arms, bodies, heads etc. Some imaginative surgery will be needed probably. The Tamiya plastic soldiers are 1:35 scale and visibly smaller and more delicate than the 1:32 scale figures and in comparison there is a much smaller range. The 54 mm scale market covers all ages and subjects.

The G-gauge has a scale of 1:22.5 BTW. I have never heard of any 1:29 scale.

Wefalk, there really is no true "G" Scale, not like O, OO or HO Etc. There are actually many scales that use the same #1 Gauge track. The reason you may not have heard of 1:29 is that it is a scale put out by an American company USA Trains, and may not be common in Europe.

Preiser make a set of 6 figures in parts that can be animated in all sorts of ways. They are produced in 1/24th and 1/32nd scale. They are excellent figures that are nude so you need to sculpt clothes onto them but thats better than having to scrape the clothes off them! I use them quite a lot for whaleboat crews etc., the downside is they are quite expensive.

Google unpainted Preiser nude figures and you should find a few sources.

I gave up on purchasing figures a while back. The Adam ones would have done the trick but I'm really not a good painter. I wanted them to illustrate certain boat building tasks and also some crewmen working. So I just did the attached. Simplistic but portrays the information as to how things were done. In this case drilling holes in dead-eyes. These are 1/24 scale.
