Marvellous John. She may be slow but she is majestic.

Hi there,

I am new here and just stumbled across this forum while Googling the Meteor. What a beautiful model! It must certainly be a labour of love.

I thought I would comment as I believe this may be the same ship that my great-great-grandfather took from Germany (Bremen) to New York in 1856. The only other Meteor I have been able to find is a much later build in 1896. He later made his way from New York to Ontario Canada, shortly after his wife arrived in New York. She came on the Hammonia.

I hope you don't mind if I follow your updates on this model.

The manufacture of beams continues.  All the beam 'blanks' have now been completed and I've started to work on the deck opening framing for them. Everything still, of nececcity, still unfixed, so everything needs to be carefully marked as it all goes together like a mad jigsaw puzzle.

below are a couple of images of the forest of frames all roughly in place.

Hi John,

She looks very good in the photos, but they don't do this model justice... I was at the museum Friday - the Walter Reeks book launch - & dropped over to see if you were in. Saw the model Meteor though, it's exquisite.

This log has lain dormant for some considerable time, so I thought I'd better tell people what's happening.

The poor old 'Meteor' hasn't been forgotten or abandoned but sits patiently on my desk at home while all my efforts are directed to trying to get the 'Duchess' completed.

Progress will resume once the 'Duchess' has been handed over to the museum staff.
