Next is Deadeyes and Chainplates. Starting with the starboard Foremast working my way to the Main and Mizzen both port and starboard. I think now is a good time to install all of them since, #1 It needs to be done, and #2 they'll be available when needed without having to interupt the flow of things. I use brass wire, proper deadeys and solder and blacken the brass. Once the chain plate is blackend insert th ends into the pre drilled holes in the channels, wrap the brass around the nails in the kit, drill the hole and glue in place. Should look something like this.

WELL THAT IS EXACTLY THE WAY WE RE-RIGGED MORGAN... CHAINPLATES IN PLACE
ALONG WITH THE DEADEYES. THEN THE MASTS WERE STEPPED AND THE STANDING
RIGGING INSTALLED INTO THE DEADEYES. ON THE ACTUAL SHIP IT IS QUITE A
PROCESS TO GET THE RIGHT TENSION ON THE RIGGING. TOO TIGHT AND YOU HOG THE
KEEL TOO LOOSE AND YOU HAVE WOBBELY MASTS.. I WAS AMAZED AT THE LENGTH OF
TIME THAT IT TOOK MATT TO DO THIS. HE DID IT ALL BY FEEL NO GAUGES OR
MODERN EQUIPMENT WAS USED TO GET THE CORRECT TENSION, JUST COME-A-LONGS AND FEEL.I HAVE PICTURES OF
MATT AND SARA DOING THIS IF YOU ARE INTERESTED..BY THE WAY THE MORGAN IS LOOKING REALLY GREAT...JUST REMEBER DO NOT PUT A ROYAL ON THE MAIN LIKE THE SEAPORT DID. I DONT BELIEVE THE MORGAN EVER HAD A ROYAL ON THE MAIN .. ALL THE HISTORICAL PICTURES SHOW TWO LOOK-OUTS. FORE AND MAIN..... LESTER

Thanks Lester, yeah I would like to have the pictures. Good story on the tension of the lines, thanks. I had forgotten about the Royal, thanks for reminding me.

Hello guys & gals, I wanted to pass along some information to those interested. As most of you know, Alexey Domanoff is a very good friend to MSW and many of us that are on this site. Alexey has just notified me of the release of a new product - his Prosak Ropewalk v3.0 a very innovative solution for making quality scale ropes. It is featured in the "Tools & Resources" page on my charleswmorganmodel.com website. This is an upgraded version from v2.0.

Link: http://www.charleswmorganmodel.com/tools--resources.html

Looks like a fun tool, I am going to try and get one of these to finish the Morgan with.

Well, I fnally got some time in the shipyard. A little rusty for sure...probably need some "relative bearing" grease to get m old fingers started - as the Bo'suns used to ask for. Working on chains for the Foremast deadeyes. Not as neat as I would like, and not lined up the way they should, but it's a start. I might come back and redo them or not..probably later on in the build. So I'm going to be going all the way around the ship and get these done. Here's the start, I soldered some o f the components with the resistance solderer and Ca'd them to the channels and hull with brads:

Well, today I was able to finish the chain plates on the Starboard side, did some corrections to the Foremast chains which makes me happier somewhat. On the real Morgan after restoration, there is only a double chain on the Foremast, with single chains on the Main and Mizzen masts, so that is the design I'm following. The plans only show a single chain all the way around.

Well, today I spent all day in the shipyard....what a concept. I think this is the first full day in almost a year, so now it's back to work before spring and our next trip, so I'm going to try and get a lot done. I finished the Port side Chain Plates and it is definitely one of those situations where practice makes perfect, the more of them I made the better they got..I just hope my first ones aren't too bad, and as time permits, I'll probably address the problems, but not right now. Need to do a little touch up paint yet, but it's presentable. I have to think about where I'm going from here next...hmmm

Larry...interesting question...hmmm...how do I answer that????? Well, from a Nautical View, I don't have an answer yet. I am very fortunate to have a rough cut slab of I think Red Oak that was cut in the forming of the real Bowsprit on of the Real CW Morgan, given to me by a very gererous "Head Honcho" doing the restoration of the ship last year when I visited Mystic. It still has the bark on it, and I understand that it was a 250 year old tree knocked down during Hurricane Katrina from Mississippi. It is a beautiful piece of wood, however, it is about 4 feet long by almost 2 feet wide and weighs about 45 pounds. It is about 2" thick....I made an interesting sight hiking through Mystic Seaport with a 45 lb. piece of wood in my hands. I was cleared through the gates but sworn to secrecy as to who gave it to me, but I will say he had the power to do so. I am thinking I'm going to rough finish it, and use some Dolphins I made from clay to mount My Constitution and the Morgan to it. Been thinking for a year about it, and still not sure how to use it. I'll photograph it tomorrow and post it for suggestions. Thanks for asking.

Today was spent mostly studying the plans to figure out what the Brittania parts are that are staring at me. There is no idintification as to what they are. The plans show some drawings, but if you can't read the plans there are no reference to them. I think I have figured them out, but don't know for sure. Then I worked on completing the Dolphin Striker getting it ready to paint and hang. I'll do that tomorrow and run the Martingale Stays and Backstays to the Bowsprit and hopefully get a fair amount of rigging done to the Bowsprit before moving on to the masts.

Oh, how I would have liked seeing the looks on the faces of the people in Mystic walking around with half a tree    What a great price to have John and a nice idea for it.

Actually, the O19 is not quite finished yet, still a few details to add like the dinghy cradle and your mine bun door hinges  ;)  Then the display board and case.

I need to finish the lobster smack first before I can het back to my father's sub.
