Matti,

I have looked at your photo of the stern several times, and each time I look at it I'm so impressed. Beautiful detail work. I also think that the wash colors that you developed for the hull, and upper sides make your ship really special. Beautiful build. I'm really enjoying following it.

Regards,

Michael

Cheers Mark and Michael! The hull and the red is painted in different ways. The hull is not done with washes but a mixed stain as basecoat, then pastel powder and acrylics are added in layer. A lot of sanding to make it blend and vibrant and once in a while a clear coat of acrylic varnish to get the pastel powder to become one with the rest. The red is different nuances on the planks before gluing them on. Some washes on the galleries.

Phew, finally got the tower sculptures in place. I didnt really enjoy the process, but looking at the result feels nice. I repainted the ones on the starboard side, as I needed to mute them more. The soldering iron worked great and after a few I learned how the plastic behaves.Sanding the sculptures thinner was also important as it got them more in scale and made it easyer to shape them.

Matti,

Yes, looking very nice indeed. It will look so nice when you finish all of this section. Those galleries are indeed not the most fun to do (:-)

Thank you Michael. I did enjoy making the wood structure of the galleries, but the sculptures was tense to make, as there are many things that can go wrong making and gluing them. Good thing is that I now got better at it so the rest of them will go smoother.

Hey all!

Did some progress on the gallery sculptures. I try to get a slightly uneven look of them like the placement on the original ship, that I think looks very full of life and almost organic. I sanded and reshaped the figures quite alot to get a better fit and look more in scale with the model. (Still need to repaint some details after gluing them on the ship.)

Matti,

You really HAVE captured the beauty of this ship. Excellent work. I also admire how you incorporated the perfect curves and grace of the galleries as they form at the back with the stern. Your photos also offer excellent perspectives.

Tanks for all kind comments, all your builds are very inspiring!

Ferit, glad you like the colors! I had to redo the tritons red and blue a few times.

Nigel, Id love to see you have a go. I guess youd end up doing a lot of sculpture carving. Norske Love is a nice ship.

Cheers Jan!

Thanks Mikhail! I hope you could repair your Vasa model.

Thank you Michael! Yeah, Vasa has many angles and lines meating up there. My galleries should have been slightly curved, but I couldnt pull that off.

Thanks Sherry and Frank!
