Hi everyone! My name is Marshall and I've been modeling since I was about six when my got my first plastic kit of a B17. I have wanted to build wooden ships ever since my father brought a kit home for himself when I was in my early teens. I spent hours looking over all the parts just imagining what it would look like finished. Back then there was no such thing as a home computer let alone the internet so my father bit off more than he could chew with no one to help and that kit ended up in the trash, such a pity. Now that I'm an empty nester I have taken the plunge. Unlike my father I have the internet so I look forward to sharing my projects and the opportunity to learn from the years of experience this forum has to offer.

I'm presently working on the Midwest Skip jack and the AL Virginia. I hope to post photos of both but it's the Virginia that has got me stumped.

Welcome to MSW,  Bick. Start a build log as it's the best way to get help.    You can go to the Kit area where you'll find an index to all the kit builds.  Looking at others build is very helpful.

Welcome to the site!  I’d love to see a build log of your willie, such an awesome subject.

Best of luck with your virginia, those AL instructions/plans are tough if you ask me.

Welcome aboard, Marshall!  You have picked a great website to learn this hobby. It helped me finish my first model and, coincidentally, I’m Canadian, too!🇨🇦 (Winnipeg)

Hi Marshall and my greetings to you, too!

I’m also new here and have  just started out building the AL Virginia. There seems to be many excellent build logs for this model to learn from the other MSW modellers. That was also one of the reasons why I picked this model.

Good luck! I’d be happy to share some experiences building Virginia.

Best regards,

Veli-Matti
