DelF Posted January 19, 2020 Share #2 Posted January 19, 2020 I used a saw blade on a Swann-Morton scalpel holder to cut the frames out on my pinnace build (18th Century Pinnace). It was quite rigid and worked fine, albeit on soft basswood. Posted January 19, 2020 Share #3 Posted January 19, 2020 I too have attempted to use something similar to cut out gunports... what I learned was that a drilled hole and sanding stick/file are far superior and cleaner (less error prone). Further, I have learned that reading ahead and planning for those ports in your build can help you having to cut them out at all, that is to say...you can build them in ahead of time and save the headache. With a carbide cutoff wheel, a blade might be reshaped into a dagger conformation and do the job. It would be messy to cut and kinda ugly, but it may do. example = Zona 35-050 Ultra Thin Razor Saw, 52 TPI.008-Inch Kerf, Blade Length 4-1/2-Inch It would cost you $12 and some time to find out.
