Thank you! oh my fantastic build even underroof decorations there, top notch  sheathing, congratulations! there is ongoing debate on Robs W. glory of the seas log about her body and more it goes more I am scared if there is a point to build on unproofed plan or vaguely criticized for appearance. even i think myself that glory has to be built more to be brought to wider public....maybe i will jump on fish meanwhile. thatforecastle gangs of anerican clippers are pretty darn complicated to me i would not like to spoil the effort... :) ok back to cutty sark though :)

Hello everyone,

Always thanks fof comments likes in advance  etc...as weekend went on following up on progress...

V.

Im rather more than satisfied so far, measuring was spot on as both sides met graciously. I had to overrun foremast as i didnt want to take it out so i hoped both sides will meet at  kingplank. They did. I had to check constantly if lines of planks are as straight as  possible, otherwise havoc ....Already started nibbing , pretty shaky first but  think i figured it out by now...there will be break i guess i have to manufacture new stock if timbers for forecastle deck so i will post once  finished. :) .thanks. V.

Good day everyone,

Im posting some updates from last twoo weeks. There is proper flooring completed on all decks at this point, I aimed for symetry of bibbing on forecastle deck. I installed new sheer and painted proper "cemented dark grey strake stands are moored into, i quite like what it looks like after i twisted metal sheet to prpoper topraip curvature facing outwards. ...i need to fill bowsprit / floor gap though...  also showing how did i worked on forecastle from start to finish. Poop deck floor is properly curved along the gangway...and met in center/ probably not like prototype but...well...Toilets have dark paneling as seen on famous picture of cutty moored at melbourne wharf.

I see now that proper decking is probably one of most essential parts of boats designing / structural and functional object covering vast amount of space in ship. It looks majestic now..

From now on I will install functional machinery, etc....i have still work on remaining 2 rowboats ongoing, capitain gig and dinghy. :) so that will come further. This time i will try to put on the floor osmo top finish that should not color the floor. Willl see the outcome. Many thanks for watch etc... V.

Vladimir, your Cutty Sark is growing wonderfully!
Looking at your last pictures, there is a detail that catch my attention: the stern deck planking pattern.
You mentioned, "Poop deck floor is properly curved along the gangway...and met in center/ probably not like prototype but...well..."
Why did you choose to use this specific pattern?
In Campbell's plans they are straight and parallel.
Just to clarify, mine is not a criticism, your planking is really nice and well done, especially in this difficult area. I'm now a Cutty Sark addicted and I would like to know it better, any source of information is welcome. ☺️

Hi Bruma, thank you for great comment and good observation. first off, if you look ver carefully sou can see that curved planks should follow not only line of gunwales but also poop deck itself. therefore there is slight curvature discrepancy of stern towards end  i am aware of and sharp eye sees it...even though i was correcting it. that pattern is something you may call laziness prbobably. as it was easiest how to finish it quickly. not really something to be followed, campbell panks are being straightened towards center and possibl cut narrow , buI just have basically enough after more than 3000 hours of building i consider it feature not design flaw :))) . there is wheelbox laying ot center anyway ao it is not visible at all anyway. i just have enough. i am finishing captains gig and that would be all. :) need to move on as i do not have more energy . i will not even finish rudder at this stage as I dont have capacity to weld such big hinges...so i decided that will be done maybe next year :) . thanks for liking I believe there is always room for upgrading, but i learnt a lot on their mammoth :)

Thank you  Rob for the liking and gratifying comment. Im sure you can do better i saw your striking sails and wonderful cabins..... its always place for getting better, i was not particularly picky. One thing i ensure was i didnt want oil varnish to change color to amber..so i obtained one that doesnt color wood. Im pleased for almost white floors though...

.

as this project taught me to be humble observing others work, well well, good question of placing her.wanna truth? I dont want to keep her for some reasons rather let her go.... I wish more people could see her so i will try that route first not sure what route that would be..and if not succeed,  i will try to offer her if there was sign of interest somehow .  ;) and if not i will keep her. :) will see.. and now last chapter so i can catch up with glory of the seas fanclub. Dear all,

Last chapter,  Captains gig.

Irony of life do magics. Its strange that such small boat would bring me most joy of entire mammoth project on scale vessel. I have lits of small leftovers so i decided to make captains gig as a last point before wrap.

If someone is interested i can describe this method i tried. I observed mold works - so i bought small boat model for few euro. Completed bulkheads  Filled up with balsa wood and voila - mold ready. - than i bended ribs/  to be oversized / and just simply clamped  them with some rubber ring fasteners. / girls clamp their hairs with those/ ...

.....rest is usual as any clinker....

Even she is not symetrical gave me fun.

Vlad,

Magnificent job on the Captains gig. I have four cutters to build from my Cairo. I can only hope they come out half as nice as this one did.

Sorry to see this project coming to an end. I’ll have to switch over and follow you progress on your Glory of the Seas build.

Good Morning Vladimir;

She's coming along beautifully. Thanks for sharing the pictures and your progress. There is a lot of good detailing there, and a nice method of building the boats.

Keep up the good work; I look forward to seeing what you will do next.

All the best,

I completely understand your point. Thank you for clarifying the correct shapes on the deck planking.
As I am experiencing by myself, ship building is a long process and it can get boring from time to time.
Again, mine was not meant to be a critique to your great built!

Bruma fyi I appreciate constructive criticism maybe more than anything:) as likes are not correcting my mistakes but criticism would :) at this point i know this was largest ship i will ever build so im now thankful that i cannot make full rigging. that would be probably few years to come. im determined to wrap in 1 week :) thanks for valuable comment. Dilemma.

Good morning gentlemen.

I have dilemma to solve. Which one would you opted  for final mount of cheeks ornamensts? I ended up having two , liking both diferently. At some point i like and value carved much more because of difficulty time and skill it endured , and being 3D yet not being gold colored and not detailed to the point of complete  realism another just gold  painted 2dimensional one possess...im a bit scared to paint carved one though. Which would you pick if it were you ? :)

Thanks a lot  for any opinion. Vlad .

Hi Vlad,

The carved (3D) one is much better, more realistic, and more suited to a model of your size. Even without gold paint.

But maybe consider to make it a bit more gold somehow, highlight it maybe?

Cheers,

Martin

Hi Martin , thanks, opinion much appreciated. :) V.

Little amusing details. :)

(So Still ongoing)..... How is everyone? Im posting sime recent detailing work along lifeboats platform. I  decided deliberately to sit platform on cabin roof instead of letting it little higher and I secured it with curved rod endings eyes for middle boat. Thin legs supporting it are simply not fastened on bottom side as firm to keep all platform and boats firmly, now its okish. :) then various works on boats related...rudder is not completed yet... :) ..thank you very much for the look. Vlad.

I prefer the carved one!

For painting them you might consider some dry bruh in gold to highlight the details and add a little bit more of depth.

Wonderful job on the boat and on the platform, I really like the result!

Is the rigging of the davits complete? If so, it would be nice to add tension to some of those lines in my opinion.

Keep going!

Hi Bruma. I did try it. :)Massive Thank you! I will post you probably love emoticon :) as you pointed me to dry brush method and helped to enhance the hard effort of carving

. I knew there was somethijg missing in it, something very important. I looked into it and the mwthod is fabulous. It consist of building up layers upon layers of tiny amount of gold or metallic color with pointing of brush rather than strokes. Always from tiny portion up not otgerwise. I believe it paid off hansomely. It enhanced carved relief that stepped even more out of black surface behing. At this point it is more than adequate i think. What do you think?

I'm so happy you try it!
That's a huge improvement! Now your carving job is properly enhanced, well done!
You really nailed the technique at your first try, it is very important to build it up layer by layer.
Now you did the first step: why don't you go further and try the same method on the hull with a medium gray? All the bolts, rivets and small detail will pop up, and if you don't like it, you can go back!
I like to use oil colors, they give you a lot of control, they are soft ad they dry slowly, so that you can really tune the effect.
Remember to make some test on spare parts first!
And after the dry brush, you will feel the need for washes and filters and you will never come back!

:) i havent thought of that. well i would maybe rather see the outcome on other hull at first  as I dont have idea what i would want to achieve. should it be like rust ? or glow? aeging ?  i have plenty of rivets to try on on hull though. do you have such example of please? :) anyway massive thanks Bruma.
