work continues on the bowsprit with the lashing and bobstays now rigged , used chain as plans show shackles on the prow (rope bobstays would have been spliced through holes). Also rigged first of the forestays using a piece of bent brass as a spacer.

Thanks for looking in folks, work continues on the foremast / bowsprit with the forestays rigged and the t'gallant stays though not lashed in properly yet... using thimbles and eyes to lash them to the hull. On the mizzen mast have fastened the driver boom in place (the parrell beads are actually cross stitch beads) holes were drilled into the jaws and stop knots used to secure them.

Keith, I think I missed the part where you explained how you made your rope black using India ink. Is that what you've done here? Is it difficult? I much prefer the freshly-tarred look of your rope to the "brown" rope available from suppliers.

Posted

Hi Keith- you dilute the india ink in an old container (if it is good quality ink like Windsor & Newton go 5 parts water to 1 part ink- otherwise maybe 60/40). I unravel the thread off the spool and tamp it down into the ink/water mix, now the fun part- i take it outside and run the thread out of the tub and around one pole to the next on the washing line to dry- it's stopping the thread knotting that is the good part, also recommend gloves- its like being back in school😀. (hope that all made sense)

Thanks for looking in, we have our first sail and some running rigging (though not belayed yet). Still not sure about whether i like her with the occre sails or should i have gone bare yards🤔.

Thanks for looking in and likes everyone. Continuing with the mizzen mast and the boom topping lifts have been fitted , most of the rigging has been belayed now but not the boom sheet blocks as not sure where they led too (need Mr Betts book)! Also work continues on the main yard with the jack stays fitted and main sail hem stitched.

Take care all, work is getting busier with less furlough which is good but equals less shipyard time !

She's looking great, Keith. Your workmanship is to a very high standard. Your approach to the running rigging is very sensible too. I like the eyebolt your driver sheet attaches to, in the transom. It's the simplest option, therefore likely the correct one.

Ty Mike and thanks for the likes and looking in as always everyone. Bar the driver boom sheets all the running rigging on the mizzen mast is tied off and coiled, also rigged the mizzen backstays (just need halliards tidied up). On the main mast i have started on the chain slings and rigged the main sail to the yard.

Thanks for looking in everyone, the mainyard/ sail are nearly ready to go in place. When dry the thread on the yard trusses will be trimmed back and the chain sling around the yard will need added. Not sure if i am right here but looks like Matthew Betts long awaited book has been delayed as i have it on order, but the website has gone from in stock to pre order with an October release date!

thanks for looking in peeps, not much progress with Terror due to work and family commitments. However have managed to get the main yard hung (just by the chain slings at the moment) the trusses have been led through the eyes formed in the other truss if that makes sense, but will need to lead through a block from an eyebolt in the after trestletrees, then to a natural coloured thread to the pinrails via blocks.

1279765724_Terror_main_sail_11.thumb.jpg.cdc41cb0aaba699262d600a3ade2eda9.jpg

at first the sail looked way too short as i had hung it from the jackstay as opposed to under side of yard, but then thought "actually it will need to clear the midship davits so i think all is good!

Take care all

thanks for popping in for a look everyone, managed a little more work on Terror with the trusses now rigged through the blocks under the yards and rigged the blocks on the end of the yards for the lifts. Will leave final belaying of these til i have rigged the topsail as the topsail sheet is the only part of the rigging which will pull the yard down (everything else pulls it upwards).

Thanks for views likes and comments everyone- because the planking strips supplied with the kit arn't long enough i dug out some left over from previous billings builds

Hello Keith: Incredible work, I am new to the hobby and am starting this model as my second build. I noticed this comment when you were installing the first layer of planking. I just received my kit today and wanted to report for future modelers that the planks now appear to be long enough to extend the entire length of the ship (60 cm). Maybe they read your posts and made an adjustment? You're log is an excellent reference, thanks!

Thanks and sounds like they might have listened! Don't forget to checkout keith s and daniel d' s Terror build log as we have been bouncing ideas off each other for over a year now and his build is pretty spectacular too.

Back in shipyard for awhile today and managed to finish the main tops'l yard. Next will have to stitch the seams on the sail and add the reefing ropes.          1896613422_Terror_main_topsail_yard_11.thumb.jpg.549f43d101e776fc33d24fc4bbbe87ed.jpg                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  on a different topic for the first time in 18 months my son and myself took a trip down to Keighley and Worth Valley Steam Railway, we also took my step mum along, it was really nice seeing mams, dads, grandparents and children all smiling and enjoying the experience (even the very young boy who ran to his mother shouting "mam mam the trains on fire" his mother had to explain the basics of steam engines and the fire/ steam principle)!                   821676507_Fowler_class_4F1.thumb.jpg.c5d55b94ffbc169da0356135747a2820.jpg  1522547146_Kwvr1.thumb.jpg.a593688b20109d9bbdca832dec6dc23e.jpg                                                                                452663563_Kwvr_11.thumb.jpg.2ab094f0767cfd92011e4681f334a88a.jpg                                                                           Take care all and have fun                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   Keith

I haven't done much work on my Terror this summer. The season is simply too short here, and even if the weather isn't the greatest, it's a shame to spend time working on indoor hobbies while it's even remotely habitable outside.

As for your other pictures: I love British steam trains. I even built one several winters ago. It turns out I will build a model of literally anything.

nice work Keith- unfortunately i live to far from the narrow gauge railways in wales for a day trip, but we do have the Ravenglass & Eskdale Rly (a.k.a. "la'al ratty) miniture 15" gauge railway which runs 8 miles from ravenglass to eskdale near Scaffell Pike (if local pronounce it scawfell) 😉.

Thanks for looking in and the likes/ comments everyone. Got a few days off work while the admiral and daughter visit relatives + rain with bits of rain then showers so moved my workshop onto dining room table and managed to get the main topsail hoisted though still need to rig the halliards, sheets etc etc.   411059941_Terror_main_topsail_bent1.thumb.jpg.13156798f5780066fdb6b9b8b3277c32.jpg                                                                            811068195_Terror_main_topsail_bent_21.thumb.jpg.64d38ac46e7125420a2ce291fd89dda0.jpg                              Take care all                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           Keith

Thanks for the likes and looking in everyone. have got the truss pendants, main yard lifts, main tops'l sheets and main tops'l lifts belayed (not coiled yet), rigged as per Lees masting and rigging. Note i havn't glued the chimney for the steam engine in place along with the skid beams to ease rigging in this crammed space!

Many thanks Keith- that's not the words i use to describe it at the time though!😜 You will be noticing like me that the nights are starting to close in and winter is creeping up on us- though thanks to gulf stream we can get some nice but shorter days up to November time.
