Looking good, mate. Interesting fact you present. KGL was clean-shaven except for them. 🤔

Yep, a reinactor from the 2nd Regiment  who was at Waterloo 2015  told me about that little stat.

Hmm, I just got into the British Riflemen book, but it's early days on the origin of the unit. May have to seek out the KGL books. You've sent me down another rabbit hole, mate.

Evening all,   firstly a huge thanks to everyone showing interest in my little men,   right  I have started on the mext Two KGL defenders, the chunkier of the Two is the Victrix figure who will be a 5th line regiment  and the other one is Perry  2nd Light Rifles.

As you can see they are slightly different in shape with the Victrix being more chunky, anyway  as I am dissplaying a few of the 5th without back packs - they require some work starting by shaping the backs to try to show some strap details, secondly there are cross support straps on the chest (these would be fixed to support the back packs straps)  so these needed to be scrapped away (carefully)  also over the shoulders near the arms again these straps needed scrapping away.

Also some of these Victrix figures show cords hanging down (The 5th does not have these)  so I had to carefully scrape these away and at the same time  re shape some lower button panels, also I slimed the legs down a bit.

On the Perry one again the back pack support starps were scrapped away (as the 2nd do not wear there packs in action)

I  have left the arms off to aid acess  to the front of both.

Evening all,   this evening I was going to carry on with some figures  but my modeling glasses decided to break  on the bridge  corner and the lens fell out  - do you think I could repair the break,   depsite them being plastic framed  neither super glue or  my revell  plastic glue would repair the break.  So I have had to stop till I can sort another pair out or check to see if my other illuminated  magnifier  is strong enough.

I have a 2.00 x  mag   glasses I use for internet and TV   and  3.00 x  for my modeling, I thought  things where going too well  as I got my money back on that  top coat (they eventually relented) so I was able to get a couple of jars of Acrylic paint.

So will have to wait till the morning to see  what happens.

Bad news on the specs OC, I don't know what kind of plastic they use for frames but glue don't work, it doesn't stick the frame, doesn't go off and then sticks to your nose😖.

I  know, its weird  they must use a  special  glue defence  plastic,   and I am sure not gonna tape them - dont want to look like that old  Duckworth dude  off corrie, no way.

I may have found a fix  - I have two different  illluminated magnifiers  one is a heavy jobby  with a seperate  light and glass, the other one is a plastic Halogen(I think) unit with the glass in the middle and one tiny extreme magnifier, I had an idea  and had to try it  (you know me)😉   I got the Plastic one under some light then got the other glass  put them ontop of each other and tested with a figure underneath  using my normal glasses I use for my laptop,  hey pressto  the combination of the two gave me a lot more magnification  - I could even see the flaws in my painting (that needs reworking).

Anyway  I got the superglue out ran some around the edge and pressed down the top glass, it will still need some kind of clips to stop it falling away when I angle the  arm.

Yes you can repair the break....

Sounds like a microscope or telescope. Multiple lenses?  I have a loupe on my Optivisor and it magnifies, but depth of field is wonky.

Yep I hear you Ken,  very tiny little loupe  so hard to  use it by the look of it, I think the combo of the two glasses  will be ok  as long as I can keep them fixed together  - the superglue has kind of tacked them but as the glass ontop is ground glass and quite heavy  - I fear if I  move the arm at an angle it might break away  - hence why i need to create a couple of clips that can be glued to hold the glass.

Well, at least you know you can.... (when you can get some) at least saves you the cost of a new pair......

Trust me when I say, if it is plastic, there is a bonding agent for it.... just figuring out which plastic you have to glue is the real issue....

I appreciate that bro, I would never have known about that  - one just assumes  superglue will  bond all plastics, and if not superglue  then normal Revell  plastic glue  would have done it  (I thought)    learn something every day.

OC, I'm gobsmacked by the quality of the paintwork on your figures. My dromon oarsmen are pretty much the same scale as yours, but the paintwork on mine is much more basic and plain - I haven't the skill to do the kind of shading you've done.

(OTOH you didn't have to carve all yours! :P)

BTW, I don't know if anybody's mentioned it before, and at the risk of sending you off on another tangent, have you read "Death to the French" by C. S. Forester? It's a novel about a rifleman who gets separated from his unit during the British withdrawal to the Torres Vedras in the Spanish campaign, and lives off the land fighting the French until their retreat as the British advance, and he is able to rejoin his unit. Fictional (apparently) but with fascinating period detail of what it must have been like to serve as a rifleman at the time.

Thank you kindly for the compliments  ( after looking at them under higher magnification I can see many flaws that will need sorting)  its that well know situation  - the more you zoom in the more errors we find.

I will have to hunt out these reads  - to be honest Im mot much of a reader  - im ok with technical books  - used to love the Janes series  of  Warship  books.

Enter embarresed emoji  - i used to  have Two  magnifier  glass units  - now I have  none,    my own stupid fault  the Superglue I used ran all over the lower lens and ruined it.

Anyway with the money back off my clear coat and added a couple more pounds I was able to order a multi optovisor  arriving later today.

Looking at your French troops I now remember why I always used to let the French win my childhood battles,  as they often did till they met Wellesley's army!
