Yesterday in the morning flea market I found some toys I could not avoid to bye for 5€ both ...

 

 

 

I was in shipyard, but only for cleaning it and to get things and tools in some order. I hate idea to put laptop in the dust, so pictures are everywhere

 

 

And my collection of sanding jigs picked up from all parts and corners of workshop ... which I usually can not find when I need them

 

 

And collection of fine rasps "saved" 30 years ago from Army ...    also found everywhere in work place

 

Black thing near is my music friend - mini speaker with subwoofer !!!  ( unbelievable what quality of sound it has attached to cellphone)

 

Yesterday and today many home-works and family obligations, and no progress, except cleaning shipyard ...  Ah, yes, in the evening I was with friend of mine in visiting plane and thank model competition in Belgrade (New Year Cup) in national Museum of aviation. I am not a fan of models of planes thanks and trains, but it was interesting, specially  when my friends head had close contact with flaps on a tail of jet plane parked in the middle of exhibition ...

The anvil and vice look great and what a deal! 

 

It looks like a very peaceful shop.  I also have photos up. Like you, I hate having the laptop near the saw/wood dust.

Unfortunately, "Winston" is part of me I picked up 41 years ago... I think that I have no picture of me without this attachment

 

Sometime ago I had one little vice (a bit larger than this), but my twin brother need it to stay somewhere in the dark of his house without use, and I gave it to him. From that time I was looking for little vice, and finally found it in place I never expect, with a silly price. It is to small for any other "serious" or hard work, but for modelling ...  it is really irreplaceable, particularly when metal works will come

 

My house is separated with semi flours ( garage and my workshop down in heat room with one entrance from garage at bottom level, living room and kitchen half flour above, bedroom and library half flour above, and children rooms another half flour above). Whole space is heated so that is no problem to work in winter. So, in workshop (heating room) no one but me has no job, and they usually leave me alone when I am there. Sometimes hairy monster (Persian cat) visit and urgently fly out. My heaven cave, where I can make garbage and dust and trash without cleaning every day. I waited for this 30 years

Some people wait their whole lives. You're lucky to have it. I am lucky in that I have a huge workshop/boatshop in the top of my barn. The barn is 40x30 feet and it's all mine. I have no "Admiral" anymore to run the show. My girlfriend has her own house and leaves me to myself when I want to get away to the shop. My model work all happens in the house on the dining room table. Much more comfortable since it's heated and my boatshop is not.

About the picture in my Avatar. Does anyone know anything about it? I know it's of Cutty Sark in Sydney harbour. There's another picture that Captain Woodget took of her drying sails in Sydney harbour. The picture in my avatar shows some foliage in the foreground indicating that he likely took the picture from shore on a  rise of land. There's an island in the background and another ship away to the left. Does anyone know what the other ship is? What island that is? I've always been curious as to where exactly that picture was taken. Sorry for stealing your thread a little Nenad. I'll sit back down now. Keep up the good work.

I wonder if the Google map Coordinates are simply those of "Sydney Harbour" or if they're the coordinates of where the picture was actually taken. There is an island in the google map of it. Not sure it's the one in the picture though.

Moldings for benders are mounted all around, and YES !  YES ! YES ! They are parralel whole along Her Majesty. Little corrections are still to be done ( little thinning of moldings, tiny  alignement of lines, tiny putty and sanding, rounding edges of moldings...) but, it seems to be exact what have to be

 

i had to make two new jig for sanding from part of molding 4mm wide. Rough sandpaper on one side and dine sandpaper on another side.

 

And, Bob, we are again in stage of Hmm job: sand a little, and then look at it, and Hmm, put some putty, look ,and Hmm again, and then again light sanding and Hmm again, and everything in circle around and around ...

 

I wish I had this patient earlier

Nenad, your hull is looking better all the time. regarding the miniature Anvil if you can polish the top flat surface with some fine emery or wet and dry sandpaper (use a drop of oil and lay the sheet of paper on some glass or other very flat surface) you can get a nice mirror like finish which is good to have on the anvil.

I know you want a smooth flat surface such as when lapping a chisel or spokeshave where a plate of thick glass is also handy but is a mirror necessary? What advantage do you get from a mirror surface? Just curious.

all you need are plans,  desire,  patience,  and wood.   the rest come as you go along.

Sailor, The reason for a mirror finish is that when one is shaping brass or other fine metal parts when the surface that you are working on is a fine finish you also have a fine finish on the piece being hammered it also pays to have a fine finish on the shaping hammer(planishing).

 

If your surface is pitted and full of dings then you will transfer those same marks to the side of the material that is resting on the anvil.

 

It will give a much better final result. Of course if you want a rough pitted surface then you need a rough pitted surface to work on, it is all a matter of preference. at the model scale these things make a huge difference between appearances.

I have the Campbell plans and Lord only knows how much study/reference material on the ship. I guess it's just a matter of scaling up the drawings I have and working from that. First I finish the revell kit, then see about a scratch build I guess.

Yes you can. Just think before each step about 20 times and from 10 different angles of view, then think a couple of hours about reflection of this step to the next steps, and then slowly move forward

I hate fraudsters

 

Yesterday on gas station ( EKO ) stopped car to tank gasoline, and to bye new wipers for windshield preparing for winter conditions. Whole my driving life (35 years) I find and bye wipers only in a pair of.

 

So, I was not so much concentrated counting that in package there is a pair of wipers ... And I pay by Visa ... AND I MUST BYE ANOTHER ONE IN DOUBLE PRICE  FOR  TWO WIPERS !!!!!

 

10€ to me really mean - nothing, but ... great disappointment with idiotic approach to trade business

 

And a comment of seller : "Why you did not look at before? ". I think that in any other normal country, the seller and the manager should be fired immediately 

 

Did Serbs even learn - meaning of the business is not in small frauds

 

Moldings for benders thinned to shape, and preliminary painted ( think I succeed to catch teak colour with acrylic paint). 

 

Painting lasts near 2 hours ...

 

Learned lesson: I must practice precise colouring before final painting, and dive deeper in MSW to find some tips and tricks for this

 

All in all, pretty satisfied

Toy I just could not pass by for €5, smuggled into workshop.

 

I hope I should be able to use it when time for soldering come ...  I hope to "accidentally" find adequate soldering iron too ...

And cooking molding for stern, too. Admiral walked into kitchen to drink some water, and had no comment !!! It seemed to me that she even was curious what I'm doing with slats ...

In the evening Admiral started her 1000 pieces puzzle ( her passion, cathcing her 26 hours a day until finish). I bye her such a gift from time to time ... ( little devil ...)

I mounted stern line strip, and then mainly did final shape of outer lines and surfaces of bulwark, preparing for next stage ( with Hmmm of course)

 

Waiting for putty to dry, I made some neccessary corrections

 

First at bow. In Tehnodidakta edge is rounded, but on Campbell and in Greenwich - no

 

 

 

 

Then little correction connected to my earlier question and dilemma. It is not done, yet, just a bit

 

 

And then trying to make a little jig for vertical positioning water posts o bulwark

 

Here is a jig, method I intend to apply, and result. Little drunk, and must work more on this
