to finish off the top deck I traced the outline of the 2 curved end of the 3rd deck on 1.5mm plywood. this will allow me to add a magnet at the back and a strip of metal at the front

post-622-0-11298000-1379767671_thumb.jpg

as you can see on the next picture the magnet is showing though the planking so I had to replace it

post-622-0-93636300-1379767677_thumb.jpg

here I removed the planks

post-622-0-76825800-1379767683_thumb.jpg

I have planked it all again but forgot to take a pic of it. also installed the 2 new parts and the magnet. just looking for a piece of metal the right size

and Sjors if you go over to the GF build you ll have a surprise there

It all comes to try our patience doesn't it Adriaan

Like my deck being out of line on the Will Everard

You have done a nice job to sort things

You are certainly giving yourself a lot of extra work the way you are bashing this kit  :piratetongueor4:

I am sure it will all be worth it in the end though  :)

Hi Adriaan,

maybe a silly question…but why a magnet ?????

Demolition is never good but if needed, you have to do it !

I'm gonna take a look at the Corch Fork  :D

hi Sjors

I pondered about it and only could think of one way to secure the deck without visible signs . I have made whole build so that I can reopen her up and repair any problems with the wiring. now after fixing the previous deck with the screws and how difficult it was I don't think I could get it off without damaging all the stuff that still needs to go around it. so its going to be very unlikely I will ever open her up even if the lights stop working. but my OCD forces me to finish her off this way :)

  • 4 weeks later...

i am slowly getting back to the king . cleaned up my desk so i can work on both my current builds

i have sorted out the big steam stacks. they wil lfit nicely now.

the deck with the steering cabin is giving me a bit of trouble as the idea of holding it down with magnets isnt working out too well.

Excellent work !! I love what you did with the hull. It pays, eh, to wait on necessary lumber. Patience is a virtue for sure. Sometimes I rush too much. But, you really must take your time. Good job.

hello adrieke this is just a thot what about useing velcro tape dots  just trying to help

thank you Popeye, Dragzz and Robert :)

Popeye not sure what location pins are . will look it up thanks for the suggestion :)

Dragzz , i have thought about velcro but there is only minimal space between the deck and the celing inside . thats why i had to insert the magnets into the deck

the problem is that although the front and back have a magnet to stick the middle bit is loose.

in the end i might have to just gleu the deck down and not worry about ever opening her up

Hoi Adriaan,

What kind of magnets did you use and how thick are they?

There is flexible magnet sheet available of 1 mm thickness and you'll need very thin iron sheet, like from a tin can, on the other side, assuming under your deck.  All this takes very little space and you can place as much or as little in strategic locations.

We have some of them with pictures stuck on the fridge door, sticks pretty good.

There is another method I call "slide and lock."  One end works like tongue in groove and the other end should have something to lock the deck in place, which can be a piece of deck furniture.  It's real simple  and works like a charm.  But that may get too involved to your liking.

Cheers,

Piet, The Flying Dutchman.

Thank you Piet . i never thought about the slide and lock method . that sounds like the way to go together with the magnets i have already installed

Let me know how you make out with the "slide and lock" method.  Draw op a few sketches so others can see how you have done it.

Good luck with it.

  • 2 weeks later...

as you know the last few weeks I have tried to find a way to fix the deck on top so it would still be removable

if I had prepared better I might have been able to implement some of the suggestions made.

I had no desire to rip out the 3rd deck stateroom again so I finally admitted defeat :(.

this morning I connected the last wires, checked the lights where working and then glued the deck on top

now I can finish her off (I am aiming for the end of the year)

i will post some pictures soon

guess I forgot to hit the button again..........it was early in the morning :D :D   the best of intentions are usually met with the greatest of opposition.    it's probably for the best.........think of the rigging you'd have to remove to open 'er up.  I don't think you'll have any problems........you've taken great pains to get 'er this far ;)      I'll look forward to the big finish!

yup I sure am Randy ;)

dragzz , adding lights is not really that difficult and well worth the extra effort :)

haha no worries Popeye ;) . yes you are right It would have been very difficult with the stacks and all in the way.

a few pictures on where I am at now.

stacks and small ladders are dry fitted.
