Polaris by Daniel Filipe - FINISHED - OcCre - 1:50 - first build

Recommended Posts

Thanks!
I had experience before with plastic models but nothing compared with wood model ships. I’ve bought some tools, nothing expensive, at local stores.. Glue, sandpaper, basic stuff..

I really recommend to start this hobby.

Any question you have just ask and someone gives you an advice.

I started a build log here because I wanted to document everything, things I did wrong, bad materials, products..

Enjoy! Regarding the buccaneer, I’m planning to buy the San Juan from occre instead.

Similar to Polaris, etc. 👍🏻👍🏻

You're getting along nicely. We're at about the same stage now, though I started quite a bit before you. I don't mind, this way I'll have another build log to check on during my build :)

You're model looks nice. I would take away some more material at the stern where you have to fit the stern post. If you keep it like this, it'll look a bit strange, I think.

Cheers, Pieter

Hello, new update.

@BranPie

I didn’t know what sternpost was 😅

I thing it’s good now. I removed all the nails next to the sternpost, it was the best thing i did. Now i understand why some people just use the nails to secure the strips in place.

I need to glue the bulwarks at the back. Not finished sanding yet. Step by step 🤞🏻

I just got caught up with your build log, Daniel, and you are doing a great job especially considering that this is your first wooden ship model. She's going to be a beauty!

I didn't either before I started reading all the build logs here a few months ago 🙂

Looking good now, though!

Have you read through Havelocks Polaris log? It's really very good for us first-timers.

Cheers, Pieter

Daniel, that planking is spot on, perfect lineup.

With that perfect first layer, the second will fit without any modification.

Well done.

Looking good! My Polaris has - for now - come to a complete standstill. Work (and other things) have been too much lately, so come the evening I just can't muster up the strength to work on my ship. Seeing your second planking go on is really triggering my will to get started on mine though! 👍

Cheers, Pieter

@BranPie

i know what it feels like, it happens with me sometimes. After work, I arrive at home tired, wanting to relax/sleep. And the ship is the last thing i do after my duties..
that’s why i do little steps at a time.

Let’s get started!
I’m also publishing my work on the Occre page on Facebook so it helps as well.

Incredible work! I'm also doing the Polaris, though I'm a bit behind you (I'm halfway through planking). Looking forward to following your progress.

Perhaps a simple question, but any tips for sanding the hull after first planking? Any inexpensive tools that were helpful?
