I used a Caldercraft 74mm anchor, and scratch built the stock. I will use B.E.s method of paper for the iron bands as much easier to work with...

Hi Mike

Wow that is seriously nice work. We all know how hard some of these wee parts are. You have done an amazing job. The interior of the stern is a stand out. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to more.

Cheers

Alistair

Added the "iron " bands to the anchor stock and undercoated in preparation for painting and "puddening" the anchor rings.

I took the photo on my plans from AOTS...

Thanks for all the encouragement guys. I spent the afternoon applying the "puddening" to the anchor rings (quite a tricky little job) and making the two large cat blocks to weigh the anchors....

Nice work on the puddening Mike.  I gave up after doing 2 of the 4 just couldn't get it right despite several attempts, yours look sweet.

thanks Slog, I agree its a tricky little job, and took me a few practice runs to get the technique. I superglued the 1st loop around the ring. This allowed me to pull each loop tightly around the ring, pinching each loop to the ring in place as i went. i applied a spot of superglue after every 4 or 5 turns until finished. I then used fingernail clippers to cut off the ends. A coat of matt varnish then seals the whole thing and gets rid of the glossy super glue.

The tan coloured binding are simply "seized" in place.

Thanks for the birthday wishes and the kind comments on my model.

Sorry for the long time between posts.

I have made progress: I have shipped the anchor, I am very pleased with how the anchor chain turned out. I blackened with gun black solution, it looks very real. I also made the lower foremast. I used B.E's method of manila folder card for the woolding hoops. I use a two in one Teak stain/satin varnish. this stains the card well, you cannot tell that the hoops are not wood, and i love the colour.

I noticed in Longridges book, that in plan view, the bibs are splayed out and do not run parallel. I assembled the bibs in two parts and followed long ridges plan. The AOTS book does not show this, but the zig zag splt in the bibs shown the AOTS books lead me to think that the Endeavour bibs would have been splaid out as well.

The treenails on the cheeks were made by drilling and then gluing and inserting pencil leadfrom bic refill lead pencils.

The Endeavour has always been one of my favorites, and I try to follow as many builds as I can.Yours is an exceptionally pleasing rendition. I have a question regarding hull planking specific to the Endeavour. I have always been under the impression that each belt, tho not each individual strake,of planking would be laid out to end at the rabbet of the stem going forward. Thus , the first strake under the wale would follow it basically parallel. I have noticed that on all the Endeavour models I have seen that several strakes of planking sweep sharply up to butt up against the lower wale strake, sometimes at a not so shallow of an angle. Having seen this repeatedly,Ithought to ask some of those having occaission to observe the replica if that is the way those builders did their planking. Ican imagine that the very bluff bow of the Endeavour would induce difficulties in that regard not found on a sharper bowed craft.Ihave always wondered about this departure from the usual pattern.

Wonderful work on your Endeavour... Didn't I read something recently that suggested they were close to identifying the wreck of the great ship (nee "Lord Sandwich"?) amongst the fleet of thirteen merchant wrecks intentionally sunk off Rhode Island to prevent a French fleet entering Narragansett Bay?  I think the article mentioned help being provided by Australian archeologists?

Anyhoo... A very impressive build and I'm going to go back to your first post and catch up...

Can you guys please help me.  I dont trust the eagle moss instructions for thread sizes at all.

I am going to use Chucks rope .

Can you please tell me what size rope I should use for the lower shrouds, fore, main and mizzen, the upper shrouds, and the stays?

thanks in advance Mike

Mike, the best thing would be to download the rigging size calculator developed by Jim Lad.  You simply put in the required info and it pumps out all the info you need.  I simply rounded most of these to the nearest full mm and then selected several sizes using the closest fit for the in-betweeners.

This is the one by Jim Lad  http://modelshipworldforum.com/ship-model-rigging-and-sails.php  - Just go to the first worksheet (first tab at bottom) and follow-the instruction.

Hope that helps

cheers

Pat

Thanks Pat.

I have another question...

I am working on the masts, and applying the blocks.Page 101 of the AOTS book shows the main preventer stay block attached by a sling lashed around the lower part of the hounds. Page 114 appears tho show the same rig with the same block attached by eyebolt.

Which is correct??
