Hello all,

Is it possible to post a video to the forum? I am inquiring in advance to decide whether it would be better to post or link a video to my build log, or rather keep it in picture form.

That being said, on a different topic-is there a place to leave a link to a historical sailing video our members may find interesting, or is it best to keep content strictly to our own builds?
thank you!

As far as copyright goes, it is better to post a link to an outside source such as a video. If it's your own video, then I believe you can simply use the attachment toolbar at the bottom of the reply window.

If you find interesting ship-related stuff online, you can post about in either the Nautical/Naval History sub-forum or the Nautical General Discussion sub-forum, whichever is more appropriate.

Interesting question. I also suspect there are differing views in membership on whether they'd prefer to watch a video or view still photos. If nothing else, video results in further demands on members, whether on their internet quality (my rural American internet sometimes struggles to load large photos on MSW, much less play video, and I'd bet that's true for some international members as well) or their personal space (does having a video play out loud or having to find earbuds cause problems?).

I think my instinct would be to avoid using video alone unless it's a really relevant way to show something; text and photos are a much more accessible default.

For instructional purposes, pictures get to the point.  Videos rarely do.

A well done video of a finished model can be nice.

Like others, my internet connection is many times iffy. And there's time constraints to kicking back and watching a video as opposed to seeing photos and studying them.  I too prefer photos.  One unspoken thing about videos is that the place you posted them may crash, be taken down, or even just remove your video and never say why.

@Cathead Oof! I didn't think of that, excellent point. Stills tis'

A video is probably a strain on the forum anyway, I was thinking it would condense information but as @mtaylor said, it's always better to be able to examine a photo rather than pause etc. plus I'm no video-grapher so it would probably be moot anyway, thanks for the feedback.
