I wanted to get into building wooden ship model for a long time but didn't know how. Luckily I was able to obtain a wonderful half built HMS Victory. The ship is in fair condition and comes with all the parts but without instruction. I hope to join this group and have support to get me through the completion process. I don't know the brand of the model, so I put few pictures of the ship. Hopefully, the experts here can help identify it or refer me to a good manual to continue the build. Thanks! When you inherited the ship, where there any scrap pieces of wood included like the sheets the parts came out of. If so, it has the model number printed on them. We can use that to determine who the kit manufacturer is. starlight Posted April 9, 2022 Share #9 Posted April 9, 2022 Tin, can you measure the length of the model? The full-size Victory was 57 meters along the gundeck and 69 meters long overall. Maybe if you can contact them, they can help. It looks like it just needs rigging and a bit of repair on the gunport lids. So possibly rigging diagrams for Victory (almost any kit) might work. First step for me is to clean the ship up - it has quite a bit of minor damages seem to come from a fall. Then I can work on the rigging. Louie da fly Posted April 11, 2022 Share #17 Posted April 11, 2022 If you need to clean off old dirt and grime, what museums do is wipe gently with a Q-tip dipped in saliva (I kid you not!) . I've used this very successfully on a model which had been neglected for 50 years or so. The only thing is - spit into a small bowl and use it as a reservoir.
