My name is Doug. I'm going 61 in couple weeks. My girl is named Suzy and hence forth the name. So I was looking at a paddle wheel steamer, BUT. I thought I might only be able to do one right and finish it. So I figured tall wood ship. No offence to some however I find that when I picture built wood model I think of that....Don't know why...(Although I'll probably still do steamer ;>)....) To I got Artesiana Bounty. The Artesiana just seemed a hair above the amati. So I've been dinking away. Had to make a lot of jigs, for keel n ribs n such, .I'm coming A few guys on here I'd like to thank again...You know you you are. I've turfed some of artesianes ideas to put my own in.... Oh ya, I've touched a wood anything, but > I had a military contract to do all the precision tool work for the gyroscopes on U.S. warships. So fit n finish don't seem to allude me. Hi Doug and Suzy, and welcome to MSW.

 

The model's looking good so far. Are those big drill bits locating the mast positions? Interesting idea.

 

There's a bit of a trick to turning those photos the right way up, but it might be a bit hard to explain. What I do is save the photos from my phone onto a USB stick, then open each one and if it's upside down or whatever, turn it (there's a little curved arrow) upright then move to the next - the one you've just turned gets saved upright and then you can insert it onto the page in MSW. Others my have  better ways of doing it (and in fact probably do) but this works for me.

 

I'm not sure why a paddlesteamer would be more difficult than a square-rigger - think of all that rigging you're going to have to do! 

 

Make sure you open a build log - then we get to share your progress, and you can get help and advice from the members here. I've found it an invaluable aid in my own modelling. And don't hold back from asking questions if there's something you can't figure out - the people here are very friendly and helpful.

    Greetings and welcome to MSW.   Where do you hail from?

 

    I have seen your BOUNTY build log.  Keep up the good work.

 

    I agree with Steven (Louie da Fly) about paddle steamers.  Having built the Missouri River boat FAR WEST, paddle steamers are good looking, can present as much of a challenge as a tall ship...without the pesky rigging.  There are several good kits out there.  ...besides, at a mere 61 you have plenty of time to crank out a several good models.
