I have seen this picture before. Don't have the time to follow it though. I think it may be one of those old trustworthy ships linking remote places, somehwere Nordic I presume. Perhaps between Finland and Sweden.... Or possibly Canada/Alaska.

Good luck all,

We seem to be stalled.

Not an icebreaker nor a pilot cutter.

Neither is she Nordic or Canadian/Alaskan.

These photos were taken in 1982 at the Blairmore Pier, Loch Long, Scotland.

She was built in 1935 by Warren's New Holland Shipyard.  She's had four different names.  This is the third configuration of those four.

Give that man a cigar!

Yes, Queen of Scots.  Formerly:  the Corina and then Bournemouth Queen before being given the Queen of Scots name.

The photos were taken by me in the summer of 1982 while she was laid up at Blairmore Pier.  I was stationed at the U.S. Navy Site One submarine base in Holy Loch which was literally around the corner.

I'm sure it's worthy, Danny,

I'm not so sure it is now John - funny name for a ship anyway :D .

I'll have another guess at USNS General H.H. Arnold, aka USS General R. E. Callan.

You got it Bill. Originally the USS General Harry Taylor (AP 145). She seved with the US Navy, Army and Air Force. Even in the Russian Navy as Akademik Vladislav Volkov. (In the 1998 movie Virus anyway). She's now the Second-largest artificial reef in the world, after the aircraft carrier USS Oriskany.

Sorry Guys things moved on with such alacrity I though confirmation was granted. But yes, along with her sisters Ehrenfels (who was transmitting intelligence on British shipping from a neutral harbour) and  Braunfels, Drachenfels were the last Axis ships to be sunk by an English cavalry unit.

If you can find a copy of James Lessor's book "Boarding Party, The Last action of the Calcutta Light Horse" do please read it . It really shows how ordinary people put in extraordinary situations achieved the unbelievable during WWII.
