Name the Ship Game

RMS Olympic

Recommended Posts

Sometimes I've done the same thing myself, but then excluded myself from that 'game'  as yourself and Captain Steve have.

What made you 'give up' ? you were on the right track ^_^

I thought Steve's remark was a hint, but I coudn't figure out what kind of hint.

Curiosity to the hint made me a sinner.....

Thanks Slog, just before heading off to work.  Hopefully this is not to fiendish or easy - hard to find a balance.  Identifying markers removed....

Wow, you guys are homing in like a heat seeking missile, very impressive!!  I'll take any ship name or the name of the class, there are only a few in service.

Cheers,

Jason

I think we need a german name..

Jan

Hi Jan,

I believe it is known as Berlin class, 2 ships with an option of a third.  But still can't find a name for any of the individual ships.

Cheers

Slog, well done.  I'll pass the baton to you, that last what, maybe an hour :) .  Indeed it is the Berlin class, there are 3 in commission, Berlin, Frankfurt am Main and Bonn.  And yes, these ships will be used as the proposed basis for the Canadian Joint Support ship replacement.  Sorry David you got pipped at the post there.

Cheers,

Jason

Hi Jan,

WWII and yes a hospital ship.

Operated close to home and also played a part in a famous engagement.

Not sure if the photo is artificially coloured or not but the actual colours are correct;

"Article 5 of the tenth Hague Convention of 1907 ("Adaptation to Maritime War of the Principles of the Geneva Convention"); white hull with a green band interspersed by three red crosses on each flank of the hull, white superstructure, multiple large red crosses positioned so that the ship's status would be visible from both sea and air, and an identification number."

Cheers

Landing pad, a deck load and probably a tank deck, heavy derricks and bow doors probably hiding a ramp. The water moves around her like she is flat bottomed with shallow draft, so I would guess she is a type of ship built to do the same type of work as our LST's and can beach herself, retract herself after loading or unloading directly on a beach.
