Hammock netting is a work in progress. By the last one I should have a technique that works for me. Leaving the waist stantions and outer poop deck hand rail until later would have been better. I used mosquito net stained in tea, the colour  soaked in o.k. lots of breaks needed at this stage.

A quick question Ron. What size is the mesh on the fabric you have used? It's something I've been looking into in preparation for these hammock nets. I've been researching tulle netting but struggled to find a square or diamond pattern that matched my calculations. Been away from the 'shipyard' for a couple of weeks but hope to get back to building in a couple of days 🤞.

Cheers,

Graham

Hi Graham, I hope the photo helps. The mosquito net was the only material I could find with a good diamond pattern. In New Zealand it is from spotlight, overseas maybe camping shop or craft shop. Tulle pattern here was just a square pattern.

Thanks Ron. Your mesh corresponds pretty much exactly with what I thought it needed to be, which is 2 mm across the corner to corner diagonal of each hole.

The problem I found with a lot of the tulle fabric available is that it appears to be a hexagonal pattern, and often the pictures of samples in suppliers advertising material are taken so far away that the size and pattern is hard to see. Definitely need to see it first hand before buying!

The hunt for mosquitoe netting in the UK begins.....

Graham.

Hammock nets finally done. Two ways to do it would be Robert 29'S idea glue top of diamond shape, let dry completely, then fit. Later I just fitted the net glued in place then trimmed the top. Mine is o.k from a distance but it was pretty difficult for me. The thread will catch on everything possible when tying. Fit the waist stanchions and waist hammock crane rail supports also outer poop deck hand rail after the nets. Good luck. Small addition to the anchor chain, eyelets fitted. Onto the anchors now, hopefully easier than the nets.

Great work Ron. Your advice on the best sequence for adding the hammock cranes has been noted, thanks! It's all coming together nicely. Will you be adding the netting on the bow section where the knightheads are mounted?

Like that other hobby too.... N gauge?

An impressive layout and the work under those bridges is intriguing.

I'm just starting to get involved in model railways as well. Early days, but a totally unexpected Christmas gift from the Admiral of an Accurascale OO gauge class 55 Deltic locomotive (one of my favourites) provided the spark, and I'm working on getting to grips with DCC controllers etc. The gift came with a proviso, however - no building a layout until Victory has been completed 😄.

Thanks a lot Graham, try both methods for the nets, you can cut it off and re do if not happy. Yes more netting on the bow later on also two lots on the masts. This layout is n gauge, I've got an Ho basic one as a test track as well. Under the bridges is for a river. Nice loco, my tracks are dc but I'll probably add DCC to the Ho layout at some stage, not cheap. The main trouble with my local train shop they are now only 5 minutes from home, very dangerous. You could always put a temporary track on the dinner table while the Admiral goes out. Looking forward to seeing your next Victory stage. It will be amazing as usual.

🤫 it has been known for the smallest layout possible, just over 90 cm long, to be connected to a Roco z21 control unit while the Admiral disappears to pilates on a Saturday morning......😉

Model trains are Grandson/Grandpa activity in this case, and for the younger member of the team a source of great fascination and focus.

You're so fortunate to have that shop so close, Ron, but I can see the danger of tempation! My two closest stores have shut in the last year so purchases are usually made on-line, without the chance to look, handle and seek advice from the staff.

I hope you will keep us updated with your layouts' development and evolution.

Cheers,

Graham.

Thanks Mike,  the layout is an old photo, it's been sealed and painted for a while now. Plaster work next then more paint for tarseal areas then brown paint wash on the hill cutting areas before the grass etc. Graham sounds good, great to share the hobby with a grandson, I loved my dad's trains and his Stephensons Rocket seeing our family were born in Liverpool, England.

Train layout nearly done. Just painting of cars & trucks to go. With New Zealand winning the America's cup for the third time in a row I had to buy the lego yacht. Putting off the mast tapering for a while over our summer with overseas and N.Z. motorcycle riding to come.

Nice job with the model railway Ron. You've packed a lot of detailed features into it 👏.

As for the Lego New Zealand America's Cup yacht - wow! That's going straight on the Christmas list....

Graham

Thanks Graham, The yacht had 952 pieces and good instructions. I had to re do a couple of things but not too major. As per the Victory it pays to look ahead a few pages if things are a bit vague. You're doing a great job on your shed, very nice lining job.

Oh how I wished I'd saved this picture and reviewed it before starting my channels! When I did mine, I didn't take into consideration that port and stbd would be mirror images of each other!!!! Made them all the same and now I'm having to redo one whole side! ....going to go through the rest of your build pics to be sure I have the future planned. MANY THANKS!!!!!
