As I mentioned above, the bowsprit seems to have often been somewhat offset, probably to avoid the foremast.

After testing where the foremast and bowsprit could be placed.

A base of the forecastle with the curved sides is glued to it.

Final check if it is neatly straight.

The planking has started. At the bottom, first 3 regular planks and above that, clinker planking will be placed.

Stock of deck planking sawn.

And the lowest deck is planked. This will be virtually invisible later, so I didn't spend much time on it.

  Since the forecastle houses the 'heads',  do you want to cut out waste holes for, say, a three-holer on each side?  Having to carry waste out in buckets to throw over the side is a non-value added activity ... and risks soiling the side of the hull - or slipping in heavy swells and spilling it over the deck!

good question. I haven't really thought about this.

If i remember well, someone built a ship from the same era which named Pelican and renamed later to Golden Hind (i know the differences though )  So at the forecastle's bottom holes (pun intended) would be sufficient i guess. The only difference that Mary Rose's sailors could enjoy the heads in rain as they are covered by the forecastle.

We will provide heads in the fore castle. There is definitely room for 4

   Now the Mary Rose was built way before there was anything like a Sears catalog, but a source indicates that in Roman times there was a sponge on a stick placed in a water bucket at the latrines, and all the men used the same implement to clean themselves.  Maybe there was something like that in Henry's time.

Apart from this is really need research, i don't think that sponge thing. Ancient Romans were surrounded the Mediterranean where natural sponges was plenty. But in cold seas this feature should prove damn expensive, and sailors weren't so refined to allow themselves such luxury. I guess they clean their parts once a day, maybe twice a week? Bathing by saltwater, using a bucket, no more.

That brought back a few memories for me. Back in the 1960's I was in the RAF and stationed in Bahrein our sea angling club used to regularly go on weekend fishing trips on Arab boats. No such luxury as a sponge on a stick there,a packing case hung over the stern with a plank knocked out of the bottom and a bucket on a rope for ones ablutions. No one I knew took bog paper with them  Happy days,at least the sea was warm there.

Forecastle update.

 

All frames are placed

A temporary support is placed at the top.
And there are 2 cannon ports. To place 4 according to the Anthony roll, the fore castle is too small in my opinion.

The interior finish is in the same line as the rearcastle.

The higher planking is according to the clinker method

when I was on a NATO maneuver in West Germany  (1983). If you had to... Then you dug a hole, covered it with sand, and that's it.
Or there was a forest full of trees....
