I Demonstrated building the Paddle Wheel for the Klondike and Displayed 6 of my completed models. It was a great 3 day Expo held in Bath Maine at Maine’s First Ship Museum.

The hours drive up each day was well worth it. Transportation of the models was a bit sketchy but they all survived the trip.

Everything is back home, now it’s time to get to work in the ship yard.

That wheel turned out fantastic, John. Having a pattern looks like it helps immensely. I wasn't able to find different paddle wheel design patterns that are scaleable, someone is missing a bet.

Current Builds: Mosquito Fleet Mystery Sternwheeler

Sternwheeler from the Susquehanna River's Hard Coal Navy

Wood Hull Screw Frigate USS Tennessee

Decorative Carrack Warship Restoration, the Amelia

Completed: 1870's Sternwheeler, Lula

1880s Floating Steam Donkey Pile Driver

                       Early Swift 1805 Model Restoration

I did have to rescale the drawing to create the templates to build on.

Onwards…

They look great, are they getting any easier, John?

As a matter of fact, tracing out #1 on the cutting board works better than using the original drawing. Building #2 required two attempts. I am starting to pile up my fails, as you can see in the photo below. 👇 LOL 😝

#3 on the board…

BUT, yes it’s getting easier. 😎

Cheers 🍻

John, You're doing great work creating these wheel parts. Since they will all be painted bright orange anyway, if you know anyone with a laser cutter or 3d printer they could be done to perfection in seconds/minutes. May be heresy, I know, but it would give you more time to devote to the cabins etc. and complete the beautiful model earlier. 🤙

john, after No. 3 is painted those tiny imperfections won't even be noticeable. I seldom if ever make anything "perfect', I've learned to embrace the imperfections as they add a bit of realism

Ian, I agree… However, as my friend Nic@MrBlueJacket would say, “Yes we can Laser cut those wheels for you, however there is a lot of pleasure and satisfaction in building them yourself.” I’ll keep telling myself that… LOL 😂

Keith, You are correct, but a 1mm gap in the spoke @ 1/96 scale is not tolerable. As for the other imperfections, Darn OCD! LOL 😆

I agree, John. I meant AFTER the repair/repairs were made.
