Hi all,

I did a few models as a kid and enjoyed it, but never really took the dive.

A few years ago, my neighbor gave us a model airplane (I don't even remember what it was) she found at a local thrift store. I finally took it off the shelf and my son and I took a crack at it. It was a disaster. Many of the parts were broken off the sprues and many were missing. I thought, "well, this is dumb." So into the trash it went, and off to the local hobby store we went. We got ourselves a B-52 and shambled it together. By then I was hooked. So over Christmas, after receiving some gift cards, I invested in some proper tools and an airbrush set. I purchased a few random kits on Facebook Marketplace and started tinkering, trying to build some skills before I took a crack at a ship. I have done a couple of ships, quite terribly, but I learned a lot in the process: Academy 1/600 Enterprise, Airfix Victory, Revell Constitution (1:196), currently the Academy Cutty Sark (1:150).

I have been doing a lot of reading here and on other sites, looking at technique and advice. So here I am, joining this forum with the goal of advancing in this craft.

Looking forward to it.

I'm from the Grand Rapids area.

Pretty part of the state but comes with the price of more snow.

Hi Ryan,

Welcome aboard, I'm still fairly new here as well and unbelieveably from the outskirts of Grand Rapids myself...small world as they say.

Look forward to seeing some of your work!

Hi Ryan,

Welcome Aboard to Model Ship World!  This is a great site with a lot of knowledgeable modelers.  As a kid in the late 60's I built the Revell 1/96 Cutty Sark. It was challenging to say the least.  I hope you get a chance to start a build log and post some pictures of your model so far.  There are a few Cutty Sark build logs on MSW.

Welcome Aboard!

Hi all,

I just joined Sunday. I go by the name “Swiftie” and I am excited to see ships by other people. My first ship was “picket boat #1”, civil war and the second ship was the Essex (the larger model). I have built 15 ships in total but the Rattlesnake is giving me a run for my money

What Keith said about your own intro.  Also, feel free to open a log on your Rattlesnake.  It's the best way to get help when you need it and also meet other model builders.
