HM Colonial Cutter Mermaid by olliechristo - FINISHED - Modellers ShipYard -

Far too clean Ollie, let me at it for a few hours with some sawdust and tiny lengths of timber (which I'm absolutely positive will be useful if not vital later!! ) Oh and most importantly Tools every where and in no order (just so you can spend half your build time playing Hunt the Pliers and other fun games like that, am thinking of Patenting those 'Games' and selling the idea to Hasbro.. think of all the hours of entertainment kids are missing out on! ^_^ )

Anyway i have my new room ready, the transition from proper shed/garage to neat room is not easy..  I want all my power tools in one place, but it may not happen, new habits to be made etc..

Also my phone is having dramas downloading photos,, But i, MADE sawdust yesterday,, so after gathering some more materials im into it again,,  more updates soon... ollie

My mamoli beagle.. parts missing kit arrived. I've already eyed off a few parts.. I.like the anchors. Well finished and blackened and same size. The stocks on kit supplied for mermaid seem too big.. Both anchors 40 mm even though kits are not the same scale. Interesting... I actually like the mamoli anchors but don't like the stocks.. Coarse grain and grain seems to run wrong direction.. I scratched some out of walnut..

This house is a bit like a ship, it is all built of timber on poles, 3 stories.. She has a bit of flex..  A small creek runs nearby..

Thanks dave. Only thing I.don't like is the mould.and mildew. But luckily were coming into our dry season.. This load should get it looking a bit more like a workshop.. Regards

No.Roos scratch. But a resident goanna and snake spider etc.. Eamm. I don't mind these country mozzies it's the city slicker ones that got me, Damm hood rat town drain cruising Ozzie mozzies ;)

I added my anchor ropes, I think perhaps I should get some of that wax to stop the fuzzy bits on rigging..and ropes. Any suggestions.. Beeswax!? Ollie

Thanks guys, it won't be hard to source.. I have a question regarding bitt heads, in instructions they look to sit 90 degrees to cap rail.. I think maybe they should be slightly angled to compensate for curve so.that all stand vertical respective to each other.. Struggling to express this but the picture with my doodles should help.. Thanks ollie

Perhaps the cleats will suffice. The kit supplied plywood are 4mm thick, seems a bit.chunky. I want to scratch make some, but havnt worked out my technique yet..

I made up my culverins, at the end of the barrel they had more of a protrusion than anything, so I filed and started drilling them out with a 0.5 mm bit.. They look alright...Ollie

Bitt Heads are usually continuations of the frames and not an add-on at the rail. Check out where the frames are and place the Bitts above them in line.

Does that help??

Tom

Running thoughts..........bitts can also be on deck, attached to the deck beams usually with some bolts

Thanks tom. Makes sense.. Jeez I had one of those sessions. The possibility for dramas in this hobby seem endless..

I was seriously struggling to add straps to anchor stocks. I was trying to paint strips of aluminium can, just ended up looking a mess.. I remembered from someone's log they used black paper and I happened to have some 140 gsm.. Went much better and everything was looking sweet, then I clear coated and it went all wrong. Mustn't have shaken the can enough and they went all white.. Not the type that seems to go away.. So I managed to clean them up with metho and tried again. Looking okay now.. Managed to get two canon lids hinged and fitted, was a real struggle also.

Anyway as someone said. You soon learn that 3 steps forward two back is a good day.. ;) ollie
