Hello Frank

Do you happen to know how those davits are rigged to lift the anchor? I remember seeing a picture somewhere but can`t recall where.

/Mark

Hi Mark,

Do you have Landstom's book on the Vasa? He shows the rigging on page 116. If you you do not have the book, let me know and I will make a copy of the page into a PDF and send it. Am I allowed to do that? If not, I'll hand draw a sketch for you! Let me know.

Thanks,

Frank

Thanks Frank - no I do not have the book. Either a copy or sketch would be fine. I may get the rigging book by Fred at the museum when it comes out later in the year.

Hola Frank, can you send me a copy of the  pdf you already sent to Mark?  As you know the instructions of the BB Vas are not so good.

Thank you very much in advance.

I am working away on the gun ports.

In the mean time I wanted to share my messy work room, where my wife says I spend too much time!

My work area (with my faithful TV!)

Wow - nice setup.Your work area is almost as messy as mine B) .Looks like the black table is adjustable in height - something I could really use when rigging these tall ships.

Nice Frank....

Lot's of space, that is a premium for many of us based on pics that have been shared. Great exhaust/dust setup. Really first class, except for that square heavy glass box. Is that a TV (:-) (:-) Haven't seen one of those kind in years ha ha.....

Ask her if she'd rather you spend time at the workshop or at the local bar.  ;)  ;)  ;)

There aren't but two options: do it FAST, or do it RIGHT.

Current Project Build Log: Soleil Royal in 1/72. Kit by Artesania Latina.

Last finished projectsRoyal Ship Vasa 1628; French Vessel Royal Louis 1780. 1/90 Scale by Mamoli. 120 Cannons

Future projects already in my stash: Panart: San Felipe 1/75; OcCre: Santísima Trinidad 1/90;

Wish List: 1/64 Amati Victory, HMS Enterprise in 1/48 by CAF models.

So much to build, so little time!

Mark,

Yes, the table is adjustable in height and so is my chair, so between the two, I can move up and down easily. The table also tilts, but I have not had an occasion to use that feature!

Ulises,

My wife tells her friends that "at least I know where he is at night. He could be sneaking out with dollar bills in his pockets"  :)

Michael,

I need that TV for my Patriots football team and for my favorite sport "Boston Celtic basketball"!!

very nice workshop, looks really professional

Good idea for you dustcollection system to all your machinery, I can maybe use this in the future also.

in my perfect workshop there will also be a place for a computer/laptop so I can verify my builds with other pictures collected.

Jan,

Great idea about the computer/laptop! I'm always bringing my IPad to my workroom, but touchscreen is not so great when my hands are dirty.

Working on the gun ports now.

When I was planking the hull, back in the beginning, I made the gun ports, using the same wood.

post-951-0-80904700-1407847250_thumb.jpg

Now, using my face grinder, I tipped the table 55 degrees and chamfered the back ends to the angle I will be having the gun ports open to.

post-951-0-89579900-1407847263_thumb.jpg

I drilled holes for a support pin, perpendicular to the angle, for extra support.

Continuing on,

I blackened all the hinges.

Also blackened all the eyelets for the ropes on the gun ports

 Gold leafed the lion heads

Glued the hinges on.

Now I am working on adding the ropes to the eyelets.

Very nice work on the Wasa (Vasa)~!

Your shop looks good, and since it works for you, then it is great.

I visited Vasa in Stockholm last year-awe inspiring.  After that, and reviewing your build log, I think it is time for me to build one.

Duff

Hello Duff,

Thanks for visiting my log!

Glad that you were able to visit the Vasa in Stockholm. I am working on my wife to take a trip out to Sweden next year! Everyone says it is a "must see" attraction. I wish I went before I started my ship, but I have been fortunate to have other members of this site provide me with great photos of the real ship.

Thanks,

Frank

Message Port?

Hello Frank; Are you sure this definition is correct, not mislabeled in translation?

I would have thought it was more like a scupper for draining wash-water from the pumps!

Another possibility, it could be a ballast port through which stones, etc. were loaded into

the ships hold.    Regards, pollex
