Hello everybody

Well things are going pretty good apart from breaking the thin end of the bowsprit, I cannot remember what they call it, but I got really lucky as it was not completely broken and was on a joint with the spritsail, so it was a simple glue job . I decided to leave the mizzen top gallant yard and have a look at the lifts, buntlines and leechilines. I have secured the lifts on the foremast, but they need belaying correctly. And so onto the buntlines and leechlines. Both the buntlines and leechlines begin life at blocks on the yards and travel under the foremast top through two separate blocks and belay at the forecastle breast beam. Mine are not belayed but simply looped around for now. You may be able to see the run of the thread on the photos. I could not secure the inner buntline as the block on the yard as it's pigging hole clogged up with CA, and needs to be cleared. One thing I would advise and I shall do from now on in , is thread all the buntlines and leechlines before you secure the lifts. There's to much knocking about going on threading the blocks under the tops. Any way that's me for now . Here's some photos . Thanks for your comments and for viewing .DAVID

Good Morning, David..

Your ship is beautiful.  Please don't post any more pictures!  You're frightening me.

Now that the kidding is over let me say that it's no wonder that a well completed HMS Victory like yours will be soon, can be cherished for many, many years.  It amazes me how you, Gil and others can do such beautiful work in such miniature conditions.  I hope I can follow, but at this stage I can't even figure out which blocks go on the masts.  But this is about your build, not mine.  I love watchng your progress and how you managed to handle the little setbacks you've expressed on this site from time to time.  Thanks for being a good teacher and for setting a good example.  Take care.

Jerry

Greetings all

Well the rigging on the foremast for this stage is all completed, apart from the buntlines on the fore top, which are awaiting two 3mm blocks I forgot to add. I do have to return to the foremast for later rigging. I did also find that I got a bit bemused with one or two of the threads which would not reach their belaying points easily, but was given advice by Gil which is appreciated. So I shall now complete the buntlines and head to the mainmast, but maybe have a look ahead and see if it is possible or wise to add some of the rigging that is done later to this mast now. Thanks a lot to you all for viewing and once again a few photos. Here we go.... DAVID

Greetings all

Well here we go again. This time it's the lifts buntlines and leech lines on the main mast yards. I have completed the main lifts, and the main topmast yard apart from the buntlines which will be rigged tomorrow alongside the top gallant, then onto the cross jack yard. The build is definitely slowing down as more rigging is added and restricting access. At times this becomes frustrating and I tend to walk away for a while, and only spend about 2 hours each evening on the build. Ok here's some photos, and thanks to you all once more for viewing and comments. Here we go. DAVID

Good Morning David

Progress may be slow, but the end justifies the means.

I have always found it best to take a short break when the going gets tough because I can return back to the job in hand in a much calmer frame of mind which normally enables me to move forward with the build.

You have done such a good job I'm sure it will not be long before you have completed the rigging which will be a fantastic achievement.

Well done

Glenn

Hello everyone

Well after two days off I have tonight completed the lifts, leechlines and buntlines on the main mast, but need to return to it during the next stage of the rigging. So now it's onto the mizzen and firstly the cross jack yard. Once I have rigged the mizzen lifts I am directed back to the bowsprit for work there, but most of that work was done earlier, which I rigged out of sequence. So work will then start on the next stage of the foremast , main and mizzen. The driver boom and the driver gaff are to be fitted when all the other rigging is complete. I reckon the lifts and buntlines on the mizzen will be finished by Tuesday all being well. Once again I would like to thank you all for comments and for viewing. Here's a few more photos of the lifts and buntlines of the main mast, sorry they are once a again much of a muchness, everything is just repetitive. Thanks a lot. DAVID

Hello David...If you quit now I wouldn't know the difference.  Your ship looks so good and all your sweat and tears appear to be well worth it.  I can't believe how much there is to do on Victory and furthermore I can't believe that I'm going to try and follow you.  I have lots of questions but won't bother you with any of them yet.    I am so appreciative that you are publishing your progress as I don't know what I would so if I couldn't look at your beautiful pictures.  Thank you for doing that and for being my friend.

Hello everyone

Early finish tonight, got a bit frustrated so walked away. I have finished the mizzen apart from the top gallant which I intended to fit tonight. So only rigged the cross jack yard and the mizzen topmast lifts and buntline. There are a few cleats to fit on the mizzen shrouds plus I am short of a few belaying pins. So soon back to the bows. It's the sheets and cluelines next, and it looks like a good read of the instructions first, which tell me to work backwards at times. That is belay the thread first and work back to the blocks which I am told is the easiest way. Ok photos of the mizzen lifts and buntline. Thanks a lot. Here we go...........:DAVID

Hello derek

Thanks a lot derek. I have made the davits for two of the boats , but need to sort the others later, and I don't fancy one hanging off the back end. It looks like it's going to be a while before I get there and I haven't even thought about making the boats. There's still a lot of rigging and loads of repair work to do. The rigging is getting to look like a cobweb. Anyway it's about time you posted now you have been given the all clear. DAVID

Greetings

I have finally finished the mizzen mast , which brings the instructions for the lifts , buntlines and leechlines to a close. ( I hope).... I am now directed back to the bows and firstly the bowsprit rigging. I had added the rigging for the bowsprit earlier as I started the rigging out of sequence, but I only fitted it using the drawings and rarely used the instruction manual. Unfortunately I did not have a clue what a buntline clue line or leech line were, and when I had a read of the rigging instructions for the bowsprit which I should have read earlier they were mentioned. So I had to retrace the rigging on the bowsprit to check all was in order. Ok I have now started the clue lines and sheets as per instructions and working from the foremast back to the mizzen. All I have done tonight is the two sheets and clue lines on the top mast yard which is the first in the sequence. So I am off and running on this stage which leads on to the next stage which will be the braces. Thanks once again for comments and for viewing. A couple of photos of the last work on the mizzen lifts, and the rest are the sheets and clue lines on the foremast. Here we go. DAVID

Well a bit more progress tonight. Fitting the sheet and clue lines to the fore top gallant yard, which completes the fore mast work on this stage of the build, So it's on to the main mast for the sheet and clue line next. I have posted only one photo as they are becoming very monotomus. . Thanks for viewing everyone DAVID

Hello David,  There's not much to say except your build looks terrific.  I notice that some pendants are still hanging free.  Do they ever get attached?  Have a very good night.

Hello again Jerry

I do not think the pendants are used at all. I will have a look again . I am on page24 of the rigging manual and they have not been mentioned yet, so if you read on to the start of page 29 you can check it out, as that is the final page of the rigging.....DAVID

David i got to ask how do you keep the build so clean mine needs a blow over and a damp brush on it,your photos are  brilliant i can never get the angles correct so they all look the same, dont know about you but the more riggin i do the more of other rigging i break or it goes all  floppy  seem to be  using more of me time refixing things of late need small hands lol.  DEREK :pirate41:

Hello derek

Hope all is well. I don't really bother with cleaning the dust off. I will wait till it's finished. It's best not to tie some of the rigging off yet. I have found that when I fitted the sheet and clue lines, the lifts need to be adjusted, and then the braces have to be fitted. So it looks like there will be quite a bit of adjustment needed when the rigging is all finished. Time for you to post Derek.....DAVID

Thanks a lot Kevin, Daniel and Derek . Well half way through the sheets and clue lines, and another early finish . Just a couple of photos from the sheet and clue line on the main mast, which I shall finish tomorrow. I am not tying off any of the rigging now as you can see, as it looks like there will be lots of adjustments to be done once the braces are fitted.. Well that's my lot until next week as hospital treatment intervenes . A few more photos. Thanks a lot everybody. DAVID

Hello David.  Just catching up with your build and, wow you've made fantastic progress!  Beautiful work on the very intricate rigging.  It's fascinating to watch the progress of the various Victory builds at different stages and watching my own build develop as all the others have done.  I'm many, many months (years?) behind you but logs like yours give me the inspiration to keep pressing on.

Good luck with the hospital treatment, nothing too serious I hope.

Greetings all

Well at last I have completed all the yard sheets, and now directed back to the bowsprit to start the braces. I noticed I had forgotten to attach the foremast preventer stay and the foremast stay which belay at the knighthead with a block and tackle which you can see on the two photos...the first braces to be fitted are the spritsail brace and the spritsail topsail brace. I have only fitted the port side spritsail brace, which you can see is secured at the forestay collar and runs through the brace block on the spritsail yard, and then travels up through two blocks under the fore tops to belay near the belfry. You may be able to follow the run of the thread from the photos. One sad point, the end of the bowsprit is broken again and will stay broken until the finish or a long way further on. I will need to shorten it by about 10mm which will make it simple to repair. Ok here's a few photos and once again thanks for viewing and all your comments. DAVID

Hello David...

Nice work as usual.  I think you're doing a smart thing by not fixing the bosprit until near the end.  It's amazing how easy it's been to break the pointy things.  Please keep going as your ship is outstanding.  Best,

Jerry
