Hello to all!!

At last, Amerigo Vespucci has arrived! This is my second ship build.

First impressions: wood quality is better than that of my previous build and the manual, consists of 9 large sheets with general instructions (compared to the step by step manual of the previous build).

Attached you may find photos from unpacking the kit and first dry fit.

And now comes my first question:

Starting from the bottom of the keel, at which distance should I carve the rabbet  line?

Thank you in advance for your help

Dimitris

Good morning Brian and thank you for your comment and for visiting my build log. You are probably right about this kit . I intent to study carefully the plans and instructions of the ship  as well as get help from the forum, before proceeding to the build.

Take care

Hello Dimitris..

I would like to wish you good luck with your build.  I have just finished building Jotika's HMS Victory and have been looking around for my next build and came across your log.  I believe you have a great attitude with respect to the difficulty of your build and I believe you will do a terrific job.  The photos so far look good and your work looks clean and sharp.  Take care.

Good morning , a little bit of progress...

The main deck it's in place with a wall that supports some superstructure.

Also the support pieces on the stern for the hull planking is ready.

I have started to glue the walnut strips to the main deck.

I will be grateful for any comments and suggestions...

Cheers

Dimitris,

As Elia said, very impressive start. One question though. Is the planking supposed to go right to the prow like that or is it supposed to be more of a rounded or bluff bow? This is the first log of this ship I have seen so was just wondering.

Hello Elia, thank you for your nice comments and for visiting my build log. This specific kit is probably a bit more complex for my level... but i am determined to do my best. I have seen other build logs at a Greek site for modellers and the specific kit of Mantua has some design flaws. The instruction manual is confusing given my limited experience. Thanks again

Take care :)

Hello Carl , thank you for your kind words and for visiting my build log. Regarding your question and according to the manual the planking should go right to the prow as i built it.

Cheers :)

Hi Dimitris

Just found your build log, great job you have did on your planking, you could have made the planking job a lot easier by using two short planks rather than one long one, but then you did OK, I normally shamper the plank edges to make them fit together, well just a bit late for your ship but just a thought for your next build.  Looking forward to following,                                                     ENJOY.

Regards   Lawrence
