Just a couple of pics of my masts I began a few weeks ago. Started on the fore mast, then the main. I'm now onto the third mast (aft I suppose you'd call it).

In one of the pics, both masts are respectively in their spot, not at all glued yet. Once I finish the third, then I'll start placing those cross pieces that would hold up the sails (which I'm not going to put sails on, would take away from the intricacies of the rigging and showing that off).

My vision (from all the pics you've come across from my log) is to simply model it and look like the picture from the Corel box, I just love that color of wood. I know she did not look like that, however I couldn't bring myself to paint over this natural looking walnut, etc...

A couple of years ago, I visited the UK and went to see this fabulous ship at the dock in Portsmouth, what an awesome adventure it was. If you haven't seen her in person, I suggest GO!!

The extra rope is in, from Italy. Not that I'll be doing rigging soon, however was good to verify this before I start.

Currently working on the 'yards' for the 3 masts, a little tedious I might add, lots of sanding to 'taper' the dowels into shape. The most tedious work is getting those walnut boards (in the centre of some of the bigger yards) angled properly etc...so they fit all around the dowel. Fun stuff.

I use a combination of a file and my dremel tool to 'mitre' the edges to it has a nice fit.

Couple of them as shown in the pics.

Yes it's very well worth the patience, thanks Mark....also it's not too bad this morning, only -3 C  should be expecting snow today, fun stuff, especially getting out there on the driveway with the quad and the plow, can't get any better than that!!

I'm so glad I found this thread.

I'm having the same problem with the stern fillers as Rob was having way back on page 1

Beautiful build by the way. Looking forward to planking now and hopefully getting the hull finished

Hello there, it's been quite a while since I've posted. Made a little progress (took some time away from the build...back at it now). I've completed the rat lines / shrouds on all 3 masts and now starting to work on other rigging details.

Couple of pics to show progress.

Ahoy Robert :D

I am not seeing that at all and apologize if my last post lead you to this

You are correct that " there's a hollowed out area so the the rudder fits up into it" shown in F on plate 4. It is made by parts 50 and 51 which do not sit on top of 14, but behind it and are mounted (stacked) to the bottom of Bulkhead 22. .

I did a mock up of the stern a while back. Here is a pic. I hope it helps. I added some text

I am not sure you fellows are around but parts 50 and 51 are driving me up the wall. It is the huge size and shape of them including the amount of wood that needs to be taken away that truly puzzles me. If you can suggest a place to see this area more clearly I would appreciate it. I am now beginning to plank and need to understand how the stern is put together.

I believe you make these from one of the rounded dowels, cut in half and the centre portion cut out (it alludes to this in the diagram)

The whole process was slightly over 2000 hrs. The display case is 44" W x 18" D x 35" H. I've used clear Plexiglass panels instead of glass, that would have been too heavy.

A couple more finishing touches yet to do, like strip lighting and a plaque or 2 describing her.

Thanks for the comment!!
