As bad as Bligh's reputation was, the captain of the ship that was sent to round up the muteniers was far worse. He, accidentily, ran the ship aground after catching the ones who stayed on the original island, and left them locked in the brig as the ship sank! One of the crew released them, against orders, as she went down!  He then left them expossed without shelter, until the crew was rescued. I think only one was not hung, after all the rest testified that he had not been one of them, but was left, as the boat Bligh was set adrift on was too small to hold him, as well as the others.  Bligh sailed the boat to a settlement, while accurately mapping the areas he sailed through. I believe the ship, sent to get them, was the "Pandora". The crewman who was spared, eventually returned to the island, to find that his native wife and children had died from one of the diseases brought by the other ships that had come later.

thanks Ken.......I owe it to this book.   the original author Geoffrey J. Thomas,  passed away towards the tail end of the research.  Barry Ketley picked up where he left off and had it published.  there is also quite a bit of info about Adolf Hitler,  so this book would also be a good source of info for any history buffs out there.   it does make it harder to discern color with the bulk of the pictures I've seen in black n white,  but I've seen enough faded finishes { cars and such},  that it isn't hard to imagine.    I think that's what drew me to the plane......all of the exterior detail.   thankfully,  it will make up for the lack of interior detail....because this kit doesn't have it.  so I will try to add as much of the exterior detail I can into the model.  when I get more into the Memphis bell kit.......you will see the difference

The two "cow-catchers" are the last major things to fit to the loco before it's finished. Here are the pics of them :

The bars are all different angles and lengths, so I sorted them out and marked them before gluing them together :

    The brake hose fittings :

All the front is now finished. Just a few rivets to re-glue and I can spray it with satin finish clear lacquer :

Now to build the tracks for the base.

Speaking of Captain Bligh.... I wonder what ever happened to him after the mutiny and he was cast afloat by the crew?

Well he became an Admiral of course!

Wheels on! Those orange grommets are a bear to install. Very tight fit. Once you get it started you can tap it on with a small hammer. The kit comes with parts to make a tool that pushes the grommet down to the right length. Notice the wheel on the left is missing a part compared to the others. This is the way the instructions read. 2 wheels have gears, 3 wheels have the round whatever and the one has nothing. It's sloppy and doesn't line up with the rest of the wheels. I triple checked the instructions and read all the way to the end, but I see no alternative. There aren't any parts for it either. I don't like it. The axle is supposed to be flush but as you can see, it's not. What do you think of the idea of putting in a few more grommets to compensate?

Lateral move, or maybe smaller. My shop is the garage so I imagine that'll stay similar. We moved from a house on 10 acres in Michigan, to .17 acres here in California. I can see into my neighbors house and hear the wife screaming at the husband and kids. Dogs barking day and night, stereos day and night and no noise ordinance.

Same neighbor has 4 cars and parks in front of my house. Wife parks in the garage and I want to park in front of the house, but I have to park across the street. Public parking.

We bought this house when my wife worked 40 miles away in one direction and I worked 30 in another. A good middle ground. Now she works closer to where I worked, and I retired. (Do to medical issues) But the impetus for the move is retirement for the wife. Just over a decade to retirement age for the wife, living on one income with limited savings, we owe 20 years on this house. We can get a similar size house outside of town (5 acres or more and no nearby neighbors) where she now works for 50% of the cost of this place. We plan to take out a 10 year loan so we have no house payments when she retires.

Some progress on the crew space, the sphere. As mentioned earlier, I am limiting myself to the cockpit and the hallway right behind it.

The Paragrafix kit also offers the main corridor between the exit door and the deck (the exit David Bowman uses after being denied access to the ship by the neurotic HAL 9000) as seen below:

The PE set has also a couple of parts to depict the emergency hatch:

The cockpit is basically composed of one main piece that is folded in multiple directions and of two seats:

The brass is of excellent manufacture and rather thick, which is ideal to keep the walls flat and straight. The cuts representing the various screens and controls are exquisitely done and mimic perfectly the movie prop. However, they are flat like all PE parts. Using styrene pieces, it is possible to make the deck more realistic. I am using half-round 1 mm pieces and the tiniest flat strips you can find:

The rear hallway is another part that is folded to form the corridor:

Again, lots of precision and details are available. The black box on the left is the HAL 9000 eye.

The seats are microscopic and require an intricate folding:

Again, I am using 0.5 mm round strips to simulate the cushions where the crew can sit.  The outer shell of the seats is made using the 1.0 mm half-round styrene bits.

Overall, this cockpit is a lot of work for what you end up seeing through the front shield. The deck is pretty much ready to be closed:

You can see some of the colored controls, done with a piece of Scotch tape glued on the PE:

I am using clear color Tamiya acrylic paint applied with a tiny brush. Other sections are done with colored markers. It is very, very small and frankly a waste of time. But it looks good.

Only a fraction of what you see below will be visible when the deck is placed behind the window frame:

My camera is completely unable to focus and take decent Macro shots. Maybe it is better this way, as you cannot see my sloppy work.... The deck is glued to the window frame: here again, perfect fit from the PE parts.

Below is pretty much what you can see.....

My next work is to seal all the cracks with thick cement and paint the seams matt black. I want to make sure that the light will not leak and only comes from the controls and from the hallway. The entire sphere will be the light chamber.

Honestly, an enormous amount of work for very little return. Modelers attempting the PODs bay will have more fun but also a lot more work.

Since I moved into the "new" place a couple years ago, I just put a piece of blue tape in the upper corners of the plans and then run a thumbtack (the one's that have plastic part for easy in and out) though the blue tape and into the wall.  No fuss, no muss.

Don’t overdo the colourdifferences. It is a small model, so you don’t want an overwhelming  zebra-like effect

And some more decking. My process is borrowed from marquetry; one of the side effect is you get two sets of decking to chose from! After cutting, bit of warm water removes the paper.

The Boss is how can I say this she is a voracious crab eater, 60 lbs comes down to 15 lbs of picked meat if you know what your doing and depending how big the crabs are. We don't freeze fresh crab we make a lot of crab dishes, au grautin, gumbo, jambalayas, and the best WEST INDIES SALAD, etc. give some to families. It lasts in the fridge a good week, and then we both ate about a pound each as she was picking. That was back in the good old days crab meat has skyroceted, and I lost my main source, eat it on holidays now.
