  1. FINAL PHOTO POSTING FOR THIS BUILD..... Built this this little display base for the small model.... Added the flags to both ships....(printed from internet search).... And there you are.... All Done. What Next? Not sure yet. A friend is sending me a set of plan sheets for The Royal Sovereign.... by Carta Augusto (Italian) I searched for a build log from someone - can't find one. I did find a number of photo's and a very interesting "History", which after reading, I'm surprised I can't find more on her. She looks like a major challenge for a scratch build, but might be just what I'm looking for, as long as it doesn't require plating the hull.... never again! Best I can figure, the plan sheets appear to be about 1:60th scale, which is the same as the larger Mayflower above. I'll soon find out once the plan sheets arrive.
  2. Catching up on your progress Augie. Really doing a bang up job there my friend. Beautiful.
  3. Poker did go very well tonight, and I am feeling pretty "chuffed" right now.
  4. Guess I plum forgot one slightly critical command in my suggestion.... "BATTON DOWN THE HATCHES" Piet.... Just how much does O 19 weigh? Are we going to need a fork lift to off load her?
  5. Thanks all for the visits, "likes", and kind words. Patrick - I had to look up "chuffed".... a term you will not hear around these parts.... not a bad fit under the circumstances. Tomorrow night is poker night. I will use "chuffed" the first time I pull in a good size pot from those rotten liars.
  6. Would be hard turning the small one loose.... But knowing it only takes $500 to send one kid to "Snowball Express" camp makes it easy. Sure hope it brings more than that at the auction.
  7. Really surprised how quickly these little sculpie projects were completed. Just noticed, I still have to stick the little boomkin on. Flags will finish them off.... then I've got to build a display base for the smaller one. Note the difference in the white painting of the stern. Although the smaller scale is more like the photo of the Mayflower II, I personally prefer the looks of the larger one.
  8. I'm thinking you should build a glass case, fill it with water, and display her completely submerged.... "Parascope Up!" "Maintain depth of 25 feet...." "Target 750 yards....MARK.... FIRE ONE.... FIRE TWO!"
  9. I think this is a little more better.... larger scale makes a big difference every time. Back to the admiral's oven.... She thinks I'm baking cookies. Just wait 'til she tries to bite into one of these.
  10. Here's a photo of Mayflower II docked at Plimoth Plantation....
  11. Fixing to take this to the oven. I'm curious to see how well it will clean up and take paint.
  12. Anchors all done....and here's the larger scale. Actually the rigging of all the anchors went pretty well. Happy to find that big piece of rope in my boneyard. On to the stern flowers, so I dug out the sculpy, which I haven't worked with in a long time. Here goes nothing.....
  13. One anchor fitted.... three to go. Shutting down for the night.
  14. Walnut really pops once you hit it with a thin coat of wipe-on poly. The little Mayflower is going through quite a transformation today. I'll wait 'til the new white paintjob is finished to show.
  15. Anchors for both ships completed. Note, the rings of the larger scale are seized, but I didn't add that little detail to the smaller one. Also....Began painting the hull of the smaller ship this morning. Looks like it will take at least three coats.
  16. "U-boat" "O-boat".... "Tomato - Tomoto".... At our age, "What difference does it now make". She's just one fine piece of work.
  17. Thanks for all the visits and "likes" mates. Hope I can wrap up the anchors for both ships tomorrow as I am anxious to see what kinda' mess I can make of the stern carvings. Haven't played with sculpy since the Confederacy, over three years ago.
  18. In case there might be confusion.... there are TWO Mayflowers being built here. I am going to donate the smaller 1:72 scale model for the fund raising event in Fayetteville on April 18th. This last posting is the larger 1:60th scale.... will be exhibited in Fayetteville, but will not be auctioned.
  19. Tried to get in on that little ramhead block I showed earlier. Here's the ramhead block rigged for the foreyard halyard.... securing it down below the deck was quite a challenge. Not real happy with it, but ain't about to re-do this little baby. Finally fitted the water pumps. Seems like I built them forever ago.
  20. UPDATING Mayflower 2.... (the Bamboo Lady) Finally completed the rigging. The rigging went much better on the larger scale model after practicing on the smaller one first. The spritsail was still quite a challenge due to the fact that there 18 blocks involved in the rigging of this one yard. Belaying these lines to the pins on the beakhead gave me a fit on the smaller scale. Went much better this time.
  21. So excited to get word you're bringing this amazing work of art to Fayetteville, I sat my wife down to show her this build.... Just so she would understand my excitement, right? After a few minutes, she actually took my iPad from me and spent the next 45 minutes going through it, beginning with page 1. She could not put it down. Now Piet, you need to understand, that is the biggest compliment I have ever paid anyone. As for the rest of us mortal fans.... You can join us in Fayetteville in April and have the pleasure of eyeballing this amazing U-boat close up. I can't wait!
  22. After only a few days missed, I return to this build to find, yet another eyeball popping posting. Cannot, for the life of me, comprehend such excellence. Such a treat to see. Finally concluded.... EdT is a robot.
  23. Piet, you continue to completely amaze all of us by setting the detail bar of your work to unbelievable heights. I love showing your work, along with our friend EdT's amazing talents as extreme examples of the fine art we call modeling. Thank you Master Piet.
