more neat ideas........thanks very much      of course Joe.......you can post a picture of your idea......no problem with that     sounds great Greg.....you didn't lie though.......you didn't specified how many years,  a few were         I'd need to figure out how to do the laminant though.

you got that right Kevin.........put out a hair brained scheme....and look at how it blooms!        I hope it benefits someone down the road.  for that to work, the backing {I use plastic wrap} would have to be adhered to the mesh.  this way,  when the colored glue is dropped in place,  it won't run into the next facet.
not a bad idea though.......it would need to be pressed til dry.....this would insure a flat mesh panel to be filled

see.......I formed a partial plan already     thanks Kevin....sounds doable       happy new years........ happy first night.......happy flipp'in the year book to the next chapter.....whatever you wish to call it,  everyone here at the Wharf and I,  want to wish you the very best.  stay safe.

try the mesh again but try colouring PVA glue for the glass and drop it onto the mesh with a cocktail stick, some lovely ideas here

    John,

would it be possiable to get a piece of that slab say 2 inches wide by maybe 6 inches long? it would be cool to have a piece from the restored bow sprit as I am good friends with Trev who was the ship wright who made the new bowsprit...I never thought to get a piece of it when he was making it....let me know if it is possiable. alsso would love some outdoor pictures of the Morgan that I can send to Dick Wing.. the Wing flag looks great...Lester

one thing to consider.......your going to put anchors in the hull for the screws.....a pretty good idea.  but remember that the outer lip of the anchor will protrude on the hull surface.   adding them after you drill the holes might cause them to go out of alignment......adding thickness between the hull and stand contact.   if you could find small metal ones might be good.......they won't have much of an outer lip.   {picture #2}.    better yet....if they have to be used { all that you have on hand},  perhaps you could sand them down so the lip is not so prominent.

    have a great 'first night'

That is an excellent test.  And it proved what you thought it would do.  Cool.  If it had failed it would still be cool because it would told you to try something else.  I'm smiling here, Nenad.  Her Majesty is about to get her throne.

    Hi Mark,

Congrats and I especially love the first picture. Wonderful to see her the correct way up...must be a great way to end the year after so much work.

I know Admiral's orders specified full planking on the outside...I am keeping my fingers crossed, those same orders allow that great interior framing work to remain visible!

    Happy New Year!

    Cheers,

The hull standing right side up, and looking as good as it does, has put a smile on my face. You must be one very happy chappy now, too!!!!

    She's looking great.

She looks great, Mark. Some (minor) fairing and sanding issues on the inside you'll always encounter ... part of the 'game' This is a very nice ending to a year's build and a good starting point for the next!!

Best wishes to you and the misses

A bit of an update.  First off, here's hull "right-side up".... I'm liking the way she looks.

I removed some of the build board material around the transom area to give me some working room. If you'll go back to previous pictures, the transom is actually glued to the build board.   When I removed the board, I found some problems with the transom.  Not a show stopper or a big problem.   Some fairing/sanding and maybe removal/replacement of some of the small framing will fix it nicely.  Once fixed, I can continue on with the planking and build up of the transom.

I also finally took a good look at the interior.  I held off sanding and fairing it because I knew my planking clamps were going to cause <ahem> issues, shall we say.   Now is also the time to fair it out and fix any problems.  I'm not seeing any serious problems, just a lot of sanding and fairing.  So this area, along with the transom is being attended to.  I also wanted to get this out of the way at this point as when I install the galleries, stern windows, etc. removing the sanding dust would be a real problem if I waited to sand until they were done.  Another reason is, I don't want to damage anything with the handling needed during sanding.

I have to admit I'm pretty damn happy right now.  The problems are not as bad as I thought they'd be and overall, looking pretty good.

    Testing time

Just for test purpose, to see how it acts when some force attacks, I made small simulation of kell and ribs and replied all layers of hull construction I have made: balsa strips glued with white glue, putty, layer of glue, veneer, putty, layer of acrylic, foil glued witg white glue, couple layers of mat varnish over

Then I drill a hole for screw, and put it inside

As a final, I hanged my alvil on screw ... And it holds !!! Nothing moves, nothing cracked

One of next days I'll repeat this experiment in scale, simulating real distance between ribs, to be more real

If it can hold without breaking, stand with four conecting screw points I imagined to make could do it's job, and I can go on forward

    Hmmmm

I know how all this is, we have engineering partnership in Serbia.  They are at work now while I am off and then I get back to work, they go off for a two week holiday.  Kinda hard to get anything done and the bosses want it all done by end of January.  Whew! makes for really long days at the end of the month.

But, I am glad to see you get time with the kids, and much needed relaxing time with the Cutty Sark.  Take care, Scott
