About 280 hammocks later . . .
It was tedious work, but worth it in the long run. In a way it also makes more sense to have the hammocks on the rail rather than down below. It would not look right to have the ship under way with sails raised and all the gun ports/lids open if this did not mean a battle or exercise
The next step is to add the davits and whale boats. Oh, yea, the boat in these pictures is awful and will be replaced sometime. I mentioned before that I screwed up with the inside and took a short-cut. And, yes, it still is pointing in the wrong direction

She looks good John. I really like the overhead view, it gives you a completely different perspective.

Well, surprise.....today I recieved a package of Deadeyes from Model Shipways, other than a little bit light in color, they got here. So, needless to say, I finished the Shrouds for the Mizzen, and the Mizzen Stay. Progressing again.
Thanks for the likes from all of you.

Hola Frank:
Your last point is that worry me (and probably many of us) is where to put another model: 2 ships and 1 stagecoach in the living room, 1 ship and the Albatros plane in dinning room and 2 more in my hobby room and every time my wife urged me to sell at least one of them. Thinking about making a special cabinet to place about 4 models in the hobby room, let´s see!!
Saludos, Karl

Great work, Tom.
She is looking stunning.
I'm taking to heart your latest suggestion on power tools ... but I think I might forego that one in favour of an air-conditioner.

Ed,
Being curious, I wondered how the toilet was kept clear. I believe that deck would have been close to the water line and the aft portion of the ship would have been subject to following seas, so was it a bench with a container that it could be dumped overboard?

Very good build log Rich. I am planing to buy this kit from constructo also. Do you recommend it? or Should I look for this model from other manufacturers?
The fact is that I can get the constructo kit for a very reasonable price and I think the finished model looks very good.

GLakie reacted to NenadM in Cutty Sark by NenadM
Hard question, considering I started with very simplified TEHNODIDAKTA plans, continued by Campbell, with many many photo investigation and photo consulting ...
During this voyage, I noticed differences of Her look through a time, and I marked them somewhere in my log ... number and positions of hull windows, number of hull rails, and many little, significant or not, different details.
Just to mention - today I first time since I started, saw a bow protective net on Her in dry dock !!!! IgorSky posted it in "Amazing photographs". I did not notice presence of this net on models and kit plans or photos until today, which seems to me a bit strange ...
Probably someone more dedicated could reconstruct exact look in certain period, but I am not so much dedicated
So, my build is/will be a kind of mix - dimensions and proportions by Campbell, ( in measure of mess already done to compromit proportions) today look, but with all spreaded sails ...
There will be more dilema, having in mind different kind of sails, and probably different rigging details
As a conclusion, having in mind that destiny of my model is not to be on competitions and exibitions, but only to sit still in living room in Her glass cage, main thing is fun,and question of accuracy is, and will be under influence of my curiosity, challenge to my so called skills, patiente and, of course, time
Thanks for your interest
Thanks also to Mark and George for kind words of support

You're making some great progress Mark - far from a 'dead' project The planking looks good and the 'painting' with wood will provide some very nice detail.
cheers

Ahhhhhh as we are finally in the bullseye of some fair snowfall this season I took a bit to catch up on your build Popeye and as it comes together the more awesome it gets. Great detail, I love the look of workboats anyway so I will keep checking in to see this beauty as it comes together.
Happy Modeling,

One more thing I forgot to include in my last up-date. Here is the most useful modeling tool I have been using lately.
My old snow blower of 25 years died just before the blizzard last month and I was fortunate to find this one in Home Depot the next day. It has been the most useful modeling tool because it has gotten me back to modeling in half the time of the old snow blower.
I actually had to snow blow a path around the house yesterday so the oil delivery guy could get to the filler tube. First time I ever had to do that.

Andy,
Thanks for looking at my build log, very nice of you. I appreciate your nice thoughts.
Good luck with your Corel Wasa. Looking at your gorgeous Prins Willem, the Wasa should be a lot of fun artistically for you. Have you been to the Vasa museum?
PS: I have not updated my build log in a while I should post some updates very soon.
Regards,
Michael

I have sharpened drill before and reground them at work. But I cannot see how you did it on those mini bits. Nice save.

The hatch cover turned out great Piet! I can barely see the seams. You said you dropped a couple parts in the boat, but I know you sub-consciously meant to do that, since every well-equipped navy always carries spare parts. I liked your fix for sharpening that broken bit. Done it in a pinch many times myself, only on larger bits. Amazingly, it was always enough to get the job done. Nice job man! I know your Dad's proud as heck.
Cheers

Yeah, George, my kit is only a few years old. I am not sure when they started adding the replacement parts.
After the pintles and gudgeons, I made the chain iron. I used a piece of brass tubing that I soldered two eye bolts in one end. I bent the eye bolts so they both fit side by side before soldering them. I cleaned up the excess solder then cut the tube to length and filed the end flat. I bent the same brass strip as I used for the P&Gs and then soldered it to the brass tube. Since this piece goes on the black part of the rudder, I cleaned it up a bit then put it into some Brass Black to see what would happen. The silver solder blackened nicely, as did the brass, so I was very happy.
It was then time to get back to the copper sheathing, since all the paint had been applied, including the area around the rudder hole. I first marked out the top edge of the of the final line of plates using masking tape, which I made sure was absolutely straight. It showed that I had some areas that were more than 3 rows wide to complete. So, I took off the trimmed plates from the last two rows of plates in the previous section and left the full width plates. I left the plates at the back of the rows up so that I could slip the new plates under them. I then marked down from the final edge for each row of the dressing belt plates, which showed the gore line at the top edge of the previous belt. I filled in the rows with whole and partial plates to the new gore line.
I then completed the three dressing belt rows. I did start the bottom dressing belt at the stern post, instead of near the turn of the stern that the plans show, so I trimmed off some plates from the previous belt there. I also used smaller plates around the sharp turn at the stern to make the curve look better. As I added the plates in the final row, I matched them up with the edge of the masking tape, and pulled back the tape as I went along, to make sure no plates were over the edge of the tape and to check the edge for straightness. I was really pleased with how straight the edge came out.
I have since transferred the top edge of the plates to the starboard side and marked it with masking tape, but have not started removing and adding plates yet.
