mtdoramike got a reaction from BobG in Miss Chloe by mtdoramike - a Pat Tritle design
I happen to be reading the paper this morning and came across an article about the very style of boat the Miss Chloe is, and there are a few of them actually being used to offer boat rides on a lake not so near me. There are a few differences to these compared to Miss Chloe, like the rounded stern/transom and the canopy extending all they way up to the cabin. I'm going to have to take a little trip over there to take a ride on one of them. I actually like the rounded transom better than the squared one on the Chloe, but we'll see how she turns out, I can always make another one with a round transom.

I cut out the keel and frames from 1/8" plywood and now planking the hull with 1/8"x3/8" balsa planking. I picked up a square of fabric that I thought would be appropriate and look nice and a bit different than the usual striped canopy top.

This will be a build of a pleasure/river/lake boat, which was designed by Pat Tritle of the Miss Chloe. I will be working off of a set of plans that I obtained from P. Tritle. She will be roughly 26-27" in length and Beam will be about 7.5". I put in an order for the wood needed to build the Chloe from National Balsa. I started off by cutting out all of the frames and various parts from the plan sheet and gluing them to card stock type heavy paper in order to make templates for current and future use. I then tacked up the working plans and will stare at them for a few days in order to get prepared for the build.

Disclaimer: I may decide to make some changes here and there, so don't expect a straight from the plans type of build. You may be dissapointed.

My daughter painted this for me when she was 9 years old. I know it isn't museum worthy, but it is priceless to me and I have it proudly displayed in my workshop(s) for the past 30 years.  When ever she stops by, she says "I can't believe you kept that old thing after all these years" I tell her, it can't be bought with money marbles or chaulk.

mtdoramike got a reaction from ibozev in Best HMS Victory kit?
I agree, most if not all Victory kits or builds require 2-5 years to complete. Now with that out of the way, back to your question, which I hate and which pops up every now and again whether it be a victory, constitution or what ever. A boat or ship model kit is a kit is a kit is a kit, no more no less. I have built well over 100 kits of various subjects over the years by many manufactures and have found that all kits no matter of the manufacture are good quality kits. Now whether the subject model builds into an acceptable representation of the subject is totally up to you AND NOT THE KIT. A kit is only a starting point of the journey you choose to take, but the quality of the build will be all on you as the builder. To me, the research of the subject is far more important than the quality of the kit, which can be changed, manipulated into what ever you want it to be. My point is, if you find something not historically accurate about the model per the kit, change it and make it so.

You will never get a museum quality model from a kit even though the manufactures touts it as such. I rarely ever build a model based on the kit. To me the kit is only the starting point. So to answer your question, all of them and none of them.

No need to apply pressure, I have put enough of that on myself, what with two other builds started and two recent purchases. But then, what else have I got to do, with Winter coming.  ❄️ The Admiral things I have lost it. 🤪

    Onwards… 🍻

I mentioned adopting another orphan and it didn't go over very well, I remember something about a moving truck, packing of bags, and needing another place to live. So I'm hoping someone else fairly close to you will step up.

Well, I would have loved to finish it because it would be a shame for it to wind up in the dust bin after all the nice work you have put it her. She deserves to be all that she can be. But alas, I'm a bit to far from you for pick up and shipping would be outragous. I would love for it to go to someone who will actually finish it and do a build log on here so we can see the finished product rather than snippers who just want something for nothing only to allow it to sit at someone else's home or workshop.

Today there was some wind at my model sailing club in Netherlands. Not very much and the trees make voor quite variable wind, but I managed to get half an hour of relaxed sailing, learning how the boat reacts. Happy with the result!

I started this project about ten or twelve years ago. I broke the bow pulpit, told myself I was going to learn how to solder brass, and never did. Since then I have built a few other models but never got back to this one. Now, it's time for her to go to a new home, or the dustbin.

I found a nice box to ship her in but I certainly do not guarantee the condition you will get her. I will do my best to pack her up reasonably well, but it would be more fun if someone would just drop by my studio in Montreal and pick her up.

I will not be displaying the USS Missouri when it's complete. My goal is to find it a good home with someone who would appreciate it and hopefully run it in their local watering hole, which will put the display burden on them. I try not to have buyers remorse and just try and make do with what I'm presented with, but it can be a might disconcerning at times.
