    Ginger beer sounds interesting.

Love the progress on the little tank. Amazing how much detail they pack into small scale models. This scale makes it so much more practical to display them.

Thank you, everyone. So, we come to the end of this particular journey. I appreciate all who have followed along. Happy model-making to you all.

BTW, I've no idea what might be next - yet.

All I can say at this moment is thanks for the likes and comments.   My eyes are crossed and happily the two carvings I'm working will soon be done.  They're the smallest.

I really don't know how Hubac's Historian can do the carvings he does at that size and with all the detail on his Soleil Royal.

    Jack12477 reacted to Mark Pearse in KAROO 1930 by Mark Pearse - FINISHED - 1:12 - 20' open sailing boat - half-hull - SMALL
Thank you all. I think the model is finished now.

Some finishing details: I scribed some lines to indicate water, I think it looks quite good. The trim is from Australian Red Cedar, which is not a pine timber. It's light & looks like Mahogany, & also takes shellac well. I cut some 9mm strip, rounded the front edge & finished with brown shellac, screwed with bronze screws because the colour goes better.

I painted inside the hull a dark grey, it looks better than plain timber.

As the half model will be a trophy for our sailing club, there will be a plaque below the hull, & I realised the centreboard would interfere with the plaque, so I cut the centreboard down just so that the  visible sliver indicated it's presence.

The reflection works quite well, the boat really seems to float in the air. And from some angles you see the hull shape very well.

The bowsprit is quite wide, but the story from the designer's son (now 95 & I spoke to him today, but unfortunately I now can't visit him tomorrow morning to show him the model) is that Cliff got so sick of rowing the kids back & forwards to the shore when they went picnicking that he put a bronze shoe on the forefoot of the bow to protect from sand grinding, made a wide bowsprit so he would pull the bow onto a harbour beach & the kids would use the bowsprit to get on & off. So, that's why it's wide & flat.

Lovely bow lines. Fine entry & plenty of volume to give lift in waves. Cliff sailed this boat the 10 or12 km ocean sailing to Broken Bay, & this little boat apparently did some trips in difficult conditions. As noted at the beginning (& photo), he had a removable cuddy cabin made for this sort of use.

More detailing updates. I played around with Steven's suggestion of stacking shields under the thwarts/benches and couldn't make it work. The shields are too wide to fit easily and I knocked out a number of the delicate little stanchions supporting the benches. So here's my latest idea: stack some shields in groups of twos vertically between each bench (corresponding to a rower on each side), at least where the mast foot doesn't get in the way:

These are loosely placed for demonstration. If I did this for real, I'd glue the pairs together, then glue them to the bench. Then I'd simulate some kind of basic rope lashing holding them in place. I think I like this approach as it lets both sides of the shields be seen, makes them reasonably accessible, and at least makes some functional sense. The rest of the shields I can tuck into corners at bow and stern or maybe hang from the gunwales as suggested above. I'm going to sleep on it before doing anything permanent.

I made a cloth cover for the open barrel, lashing it one with some fine line:

I think it's good enough for display on the model. Another barrel is underway so I can place one on each side of the mast footing.

I made two more bundles of "spears", this time using toothpicks as the shafts. I sanded these down a bit smaller, glued them in bundles around a central dowel, and wrapped them in cloth:

The newer ones are at left. I like these a bit better, though I'll use both sets, piling them together. Their length matches the spear held by one of my figurines. The handles are probably still a bit thick, but I think it's close enough for artistic representation.

In this approach, the spears and most of the cargo will set centrally surrounding the mast foot. I think this will work out pretty well.

So the kit comes with a little stencil for the ship name (TR for Trident).

the boot stripe is about 2mm so it’s taken a bit of work to get it right.  Now for some weathering. I  put in hull plates but they’re hard to see.

Thank to all for the discussion and comments. Finally some progress to report!

The sub-base is complete to fit the acrylic case. For those curious, there is a central hole for air circulation with gauze meh to discourage insect infiltration. The two pieces of 1/64" ply act as an air gap between the sub-base and base of the model. Oars will be added tomorrow.

All the best for a quick and speedy FULL recovery Michael.  I think we all need to take that break every so often, but not with such extenuating circumstances.

I made a little progress today. I cut off the plastic gun barrels and added the brass ones. I deliberated over whether to bother; the original plastic looks quite reasonable but the brass is a little finer and does have a hollow muzzle.

Then I moved onto adding the PE detail to the turret. There are some very fine grab handles and some equipment brackets which were easy to work with in spite of their size. The turret is now going to require delicate handling

Next will be masking the axles and spraying primer onto the hull, turret, track and wheels.

    Thanks for looking

Thanks OC. It sounds like I've found the right crowd. I really enjoy cooking - and eating the results. I cook a lot of Indian dishes'I'm a big fan of Madhur Jaffrey. I brew my own beer

And I even do a bit of baking

Its great to have found such helpful and fun people.

    30 pieces made (o series)
Didn't go into production (was too slow and under-armed),
So did not fit into the general vision of the fast mobile panzer division

Start with a wooden "mock up"

    Interior
    Exterior

One survived some time in Aberdeen, but was later scrapped

Mine is a VK 16.01 (epoxi resin, manufacturer?? : don't remember too long ago 😉 )
