Hi Marc, Just a suggestion here.... Have you also looked at your access for installation of Deckhouses, Boats, Etc before you get to the final pieces of Rigging? As stated, just a suggestion, you have probably already done so and I am certainly not teaching you to suck eggs, so to speak.... 🙂 (It would be awful if you had to de-construct anything....) Cheers and Regards, Harry.

Hi All, Small update: Completed PE cladding for 1st Tier of Fwd Superstructure. I have not yet installed the last six pieces of cladding as I have some test fitting/checking to do first. Anyway, photos of the last couple of days work.... (PE fret photo: Top three are Starboard, bottom three, Port.) Cheers....HOF. Photos:

Hi All, Starboard Fwd Superstructure, 1st tier detail, applied to PE Sheathing.... After five hours, my eyes need a rest. It's much easier to apply the detail directly with the sheathing on the PE fret. I was tempted to attach the remainder of the sheathing but I know better.... 🙂 Port side and photos tomorrow. I'll review installing after researching subsequent steps.... (The last thing I want to do is paint myself into a corner.) Cheers....HOF.

Hi All, Small update: Installed Forward Superstructure Redoubt PE. The operation went o.k, I must have something correct.... 🙂 I am of the opinion that these bits were super critical to the remainder of the Superstructure PE A foundation if you like.... I can now move forward with the detail bits in the following order: PE detail on the PE installed PE detail on Fore/Aft, Port/starboard sheathing Install the above sheathing That's more of the plan.... Edit: The Port side Aft Redoubt PE had a gap between the Plastic Redoubt and PE sheathing.... It was really bugging me and after some deliberation, I decided the re-form the Forward most "Fold," had to reform the rear folds also, re-attached and much better.... 🙂 Cheers....HOF. Photos:

Hi Chap, Sorry, no updates for some time I'm afraid.... It's still sitting on the bench, somewhat forlorn, behind the Bismarck. I'll get to it one of these days but the Bismarck has assumed priority. I don't think it will touch water though as there is already a hole in the Hull for the lighting Mains Adapter wiring.... 🙂 Something more suitable for RC conversion is sitting at home in storage, A/L Marina II. (So many ships, so little time.... 🙂) Cheers and Regards, Harry.

Hi All, Small update: (Sorry no photos yet....) I pulled issues 72 thru 75 These deal with cladding for the Lower Forward Superstructure, Port and Starboard. I decided that I would begin by sheathing the "Redoubt" PE for the prior to sheathing all the flat, straight bits. My reasoning is that the curved pieces have minimal Railings attached and I require to "Handle" the Superstructure whilst forming and attaching these curved pieces. My doctrine is that I am not going to damage Railings when they are not installed....🙂 That's the plan anyway.... Cheers....HOF.

Thanks Chap, It's my first model ship with "Guns.... 🙂" As mentioned somewhere near the start of the log, I spent so much "Coin," NZD $16.95 per issue X 140 issues), years ago, seeing other Bismarck builds here, It piqued my interest in this, time to carry on with it. Yup, it is "Fiddly" very.... However, I needed to learn more, esp. Photo Etch. (It's not that small at around 1.4 meters but the PE and other aspects tends to be at 1/200.) A bit of a departure from models with "No Plastic" bits, (Multi-Media) I think it'll come out o.k. in the end. The 'Sickness" has thankfully run its' course..... 🙂 Cheers and Regards, Harry.

Hi All, Small update: So, progress has been a little slow, due in no small part, to battling the COVID thing.... ☹️ I climbed back into it today and made a start on the forward Superstructure. (Jumping back many issues.... After clearing the Decks and placing sub-assemblies into secure storage to mitigate any accidents....) The exposed Decks, (No Printed Deck covering), I gave a dose of Sanding Sealer as I want to minimize any grain showing through post painting these areas. (I extended this to the Aft superstructure "Painted" deck areas as well.) Up until now, I had not attached the Fore Superstructure Decks, (1st Tier), I am pleased that I did so as the aft structure was slightly "Racked" but pulled into alignment with lots of clamps.... I guess when I sheath this stuff it will show any issues, I hope not!! About six "Issues" should see the Brass sheathing more or less completed. So, onward.... I'll post some photos in the next few days. Cheers....HOF.

Thanks Rod. I too was supplied with a spool of Mono Filament Line. I have a bit of time up my sleeve before considering further.... 🙂 Cheers and Regards, Harry.

Hi Rod, Very nice work there!! Sorry to hear of the "Breakages" but sounds like a good recovery. I'll look at modifying the Crane Bases and the "Bruno" interference piece also when I get to them, great advice thank you.... 🙂 What medium did you use for the "Lashing" on your Boats? I'm also interested in what you are considering for your Rigging medium.... (I purchased some EZLine some time ago but have never tried it. Cheers and Regards, Harry.

Hi Rod, Your build is looking pretty damn good!! The Ships Boats look awesome also, very nice work.... I reckon you are pretty much on the home straight.... 🙂 Cheers....HOF.

Thanks Rod, I will try to ensure that I don't make any sudden movements around the Rails!! Before I install, I need to ensure that the Superstructure is prepared as much as possible.... Cheers and Regards, Harry.

Thanks Chap. The reason that I bothered to post this was that the Amati kit does not seem to provide a Jig for this particular element but the Amati/Partwork version does. So, in order for those attempting the Amati Version, they may wish to construct the Jig. Cheers and Regards, Harry.

Hi All, Small update: Decided to assemble the "Service Boat" storage racks that will be positioned either side of the Main Hanger. (The other two Service Boats are accommodated on the Hanger Roof.) I assembled the Jig last night and used some candle wax on the surfaces of the Jig that would be exposed to CA. The Jig worked o.k. in terms of correct spacings but required a small clamp to prevent things moving around. (Even though I have not yet fitted the Racks yet, I'm reasonably confident they'll fit with ought too many issues.) Cheers....HOF. Photos:

I need to stop "Stressing!!" I placed the Conning Tower structure on the Forward Superstructure. Once done, any tiny errors disappear with the sheer size of the Ship.... 🙂 I guess I'm being over critical and striving for perfection. I have to remind myself that this project is also my first serious foray in the use of Photo Etch. HOF.
-
Hi All, Cleaned up and gave the Conning Tower and gave it a dose of Primer. Not perfect but better than it was.... 🙂 (It is what it is.... Just noticed in one of the photos the top PE ring on the Starboard side needs a "Tweak.") I can now move on with another "Issue." I think that I'll have a go at the Hanger Boat supports and see how that goes.... Amati/Partworks supplied a bit of strip wood to construct a Jig for these. Cheers....HOF. Sorry to plague you with Conning Tower photos....

Hi All, Small update: PE now complete on the lower Conning Tower. (Don't know why the instruction call this a "Mast.") When I say complete, I left 4 pieces off, Webs under the Central PE Platform, no biggie, no one will notice or look for that matter. I managed to break the RHS Rear Platform Railing, so made a replacement from 0.5mm Brass Wire, as with both Rear Platform outer Rails, I got fed up with trying to balance these on the Platform edge waiting for the CA to set-up and after loosing one to the "Carpet Monster" I decided to make my own. Don't know what the Rectangular protrusions are on the Rear Platforms but the instructions call for them to "Articulate" and they do....🙂 The whole structure in "The Raw" looks really scrappy but I think that a judicial application of Acetone and dose of Light Grey will make things a whole lot better and hide the misdemeanors.. (I'll do that tomorrow morning.) I found this structure really "Fiddly" and did not assist with my usually calm countenance. 🙂 (It's also reasonably fragile, so care necessary when handling.) Cheers....HOF. Photos:
