hof00 reacted to Osmosis in VAC-U-DUCK - Vac-U-Boat by Osmosis - FINISHED
Just a small update.
All of the innards are in and tested. Batteries are fully charged.
The clear acrylic hatch needed to have the corners rounded slightly in order to seat in the recess fully.
The ESC power switch did not have a means of through mounting so I filed a small notch in the hatch so I could have access to it. I will finish taping the hatch prior to going to the pond.
Here he is ready and waiting for his first swim. Now if only the weather would cooperate! It was blowing 18-20 yesterday and more of the same is predicted for today. When I let the dogs out this morning it was blowing pretty good so we will see. Maybe it will lay down enough by this evening to get him wet.
Regards

Top Sail fitted... Rigging detail was a bit unclear in this kit and was not able to find much detail regarding Halyard and tack. There are so many versions rigging options on this yacht. I’m hoping I got it right...
Please chime in if you all see something I missed.
thanks 😎

Hi all,
My latest magazine work is complete. This is the Wingnut Wings kit, with plywood decals, wooden prop, resin wheels, metal exhaust by Proper Plane. Also wood nail decals and resin set/seatbelts from HGW, as well as metal turnbuckles from GasPatch. This one will be published in Military Illustrated Modeller, and also Japan's World Scale Modeller title. So pleased my time in plastic is coming to an end so I can get back to ships. Just waiting on Amati to send the Victory prototype parts over.

Hi HOF
No, the stanchions are Sapele (or Sapelly per AL).
I managed to find some walnut strip wood on Amazon, which I think will be ok once I’ve used the same stain I used on the Sapele.

I don't think that attacking the "Hens" is the way to go....
I'd like to see the ladies chase Mr. Vacu Duck.... (Does he have a name?)
Cheers....HOF.

Looks like a lovely "Drake"
Watch out for amorous Ducks, "Hens."
Make sure the Hens don't try to sink it, or, maybe it's the other way around? 🙂
Cheers....HOF.

If you want, I can give you a design for a RC BB gun, to protect your duck from attack. 🙂

Engine hatch cowl vents, very small detail pieces made from brass strip, brass tube, brass nails, and washes. The detailing was time consuming and a patience tester, but I think the effect works

As you can see by the attached photos I have started the build up of the hull. The quality of the plywood and laser cut are very good. As you can see I have added some hole in the bulkheads to accomadate wireing that I have added for lighting. I have puts lights in the last several models I have built and it adds a nice effect. Pls excuse the clutter on my work bench I am not a neatnick at heart. I have added a picture of the "Portland" (Bluejacket) to show the lights.

BTW,
Just a thought, when you get to installing your Scuppers, ensure you clamp some waste material on the inside of the Bulwark, it will ensure that the inside of the Bulwark does not "Break out."
Anyway, not trying to teach you to suck eggs.... 🙂
Have a practice on scrap first.
Cheers....HOF.

Hi Chap,
Had a look at the width/thickness of the Keel, thought that's not right.... You've fixed it, looks good.
Regarding the gaps between Keel and Hull, Walnut Filler if you are not going to paint, you won.t notice the fillet of filler once sanded.
My thing that I have learnt with A/L stuff is to place the Keel after the 1st Planking is complete, more learned members may have a different opinion regarding sequence?
Wot Gaps? 🙂
Your choice between Paint or not.
Looks great regardless.
Cheers....HOF.

Nice recovery and continued build!!
I do like the "Joggled" Deck detail, wish I had done it on mine....
The Bulwark Stanchions look great, there's a lot of them.
In the past, I had started this model but my Abyssinian cats put paid to that, chasing a largish Bush Rat inside, upsetting the Kit contents and pretty much trashing the whole thing.
Hence my Sergal/Mantua version....
(I do have an "Updated" A/L version in my closet, one with Sails.
I have heard that this is a Chinese kit? Don't know....)
Anyway, I'm following with interest....
(Guess I'm a "Cutty Nut.")
Cheers....HOF.
