Really nice finish, you also managed to sneak in the tricky planking at the stern. 🙂

Hi Sjors, Coming along nicely. I like the finish that the oil gives and have thought of using it myself in the past, I was unsure though if it affected glueing parts onto the surface later. What's your experience on this, also will it sand ok.

Thanks Piet
Here are the promises pictures with the tung oil.
In the mean while I've bin busy with some other stuff.
I have place the upper stern part.
Easy to glue
Next thing are the top bow batten and bottom bow batten.
I hope it will work because I have to bend again.
But we shall see.

Another fine plastic build, its great to see even the older kits getting a fresh new life, I built loads of the old Airfix ship kits when their skill level was not that high, loving what you have done so far Im following with interest also.

oh.......before I forget I mentioned earlier, that there is a sort of slot, toward the back of the elevator well, if you look below deck. I was unsure if there was anything there, since I did not see a 'back wall' in the parts sprues. I noticed today that there are these two doors.........part number 21. for some reason or another, these parts are nowhere to be seen in the instructions. I haven't fitted them yet, but I believe they go there.
just a little info for those who have this kit.

so.......yes, I did make some more progress on this project. the first thing was to fill in that gap in the stern.
when I touch up the decks, I can address this. the main mast has a lot of small pieces......the tree was starting to take shape.
along side there is one of the DRBC-32A fire control radar units........there are three on the upper structure. the four Super Frelon Helicopters supplied in the kit, are made up with a number of small parts as well. trimming the assembly joints took some care.......that little dimple you may have seen in the front, is actually the front wheel. I had to be careful not to cut it off! a pair of aft wheels {pods and tires}......giving them a tripod landing gear, were cemented in place. the tail section was also cemented in place......a tiny stabilizer is still to be added after they are dry......overnight. the rotors will be added last, after they are painted.
still some clean up to do on them..........more was done to the mast tree.
the DBRN-34A navigational radar unit
I think these are the two other DBRC-32A radar units
......and I don't think I showed you the 100 mm guns assembled.......they are ready for paint.
with a bit more clean up, these should be ready for paint. more soon
thanks for look'in in and also for the likes.....glad to have ya follow'in along

thanks for the encouraging comments gents.......I appreciate the interest
this must be an updated kit Yves.......it gives her complete history, right to when it was decommissioned in 2010. what still bugs me though, is why would she be modeled with the SAM missiles, and not the two triple Exocet launchers that she ended up with for most of her career. the kit does have it's faults, but it's coming out OK so far.......I'm only having to make a few minor adjustments.
Lou......the SAM missiles and launcher looks like this........the Exocet launcher is encased. American warships have these launchers too.....the missiles are externally attached to the trajectory arms {pods}. Edwards has the Titanic railings and stuff.....I have a few other places where they can be found. there's a wonderful site that I will send you regarding the Titanic, I think you might like it
I won't give up on it Greg........I'm too far into it. even though I could use any of those different sheets, I think I'll just use the supplied railings and stuff. given the time factor {and the cost of some of them made the admiral flip}...I'll wait till I get.......lets say.......a better subject to expend the effort into. you are the guru of P.E. ......it's sage advice coming from you I truly enjoy what you do to your vessels. besides, I think I spent my allowance for the time being.......a future project that got put away for Christmas {anything that will keep my grubby paws out of it}.

Don’t give up on it, just get some generic PE (GMM still has that scale), then make it up, no one will ever know.

1/400 railings are readily available for the Titanic and I believe several other ships. 1/350 might also work but Denis will probably be well beyond that by the time he could get them.
By the way Denis, i don't think the missiles would be stored on the rails but would be loaded just prior to launch from an internal magazine.
Fun build to watch.

good morning, thankyou for your comments yes i have amble scope for the extra detailing, but at present i just want to get the superstructure built up and then go around adding all the nice little bits, the helicopter/hanger idea was just to see if i had what (skill levels) it needs for the build

keith yes i have considered lots, but keep going back to MDF, i still have no intentions of putting her into water, infact I am still thinking of opening sections of the hull up to show internal details, I just wish I had access top better references

That amazing work you do. The idea with the heli fits in such a lovley detail.
The kit offers a plenty of possibilitys to you to show amaising details. The hangar is a good example. If you look for the signs all over the, walls and thethe yellow-black spriping you need,: you can download a plenty from the web, arrange and resize them with MS paint ad after saving them ashalf pdf print them in your local copyshop. To get the right screw/rivet effect in this little scale pin in from backside with a needle first to imitate the screw then soak the hole sign with superglue to pick it on the wallright so you'll get a special surface a bit differing from the wall behind.
Here I tryed the technic on a box scaled in 1/56 to imitare riviting.
Oh I'm starting to share more time today with reading and leaving through threads han building my own little lugger.
I'm looking forward to see more in here.
Thanks for sharing.
By the way
“Mark“ is in German a pice of land like the old mark near Hamburg, but the ship Bismarck is baptisted after Duke Otto von Bismarck who united the several German King,-, Duke- and Townstates to the German Empire on 18.Jan.1871

Kevin, I think the MDF will give you much greater rigidity. Have you considered 1/8" ply and rejected it? The build is looking good.

this weekend has been working forward of the hanger, and the big question, (could i do better), lets find out
not turning back as it all went in the bin, even the dog ate some
back to the idea of building with 3mm MDF
using the plans to keep the centre line correct, i made a spacers to keep it all lines up, these eventually become vents and exhausts
this is not my photo, but you can see what I mean towards the end of the hanger
when happy 1mm plasticard was added to the roof, and more access points added
also stared to add 0.5mm skim to the bulkheads, as ot flows around the corners i created

Good evening everyone
i was happy with the hanger, but last weekend i ripped the after block off (director gear office) and did it again
this was because at the end of the hanger roof where it drops down would not sit square (sorted)
i am even putting in access points, in case i need them
everything is removable at this time

nice to see the stern coming together.......looks very nice

I was afraid I would never get these peaces fitted. Had to be bend in many ways. The two peaces toke me over 2 hours but I am very satisfied with the results.
I also modified the angle, because otherwise it would cover half of the canon port.

Had to do small modifications on these side peaces of the stern. Well, more room for the decorations...
