Scroll saw versus band saw
Rudolf replied to Juddson's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
I must have ben lucky then, my Hegner saw still runs very smoothly, very little vibration, even a higher speeds. I must try a new one once and see if if there is a difference. Those saws, albeit pricey seem to be quite popular in Germany and Austria. Greetings, Rudolf -
Scroll saw versus band saw
Rudolf replied to Juddson's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
Hi Juddson, I have been using an old Hegner scroll saw for 20 years or so, I had bought used and I am still happy with it. I has multiple speeds and thus gives you a lot of control over your cut. It looks pretty much like the red saw in Bob Cleeks post. Hegner is still made in Germany Greetings Rudolf -

Kortes, your log is still an inspiration to me and others, the fact that even a master like you needs a few attempts to achieve perfection is somewhat comforting. Keep up the beautiful work! May god bless you and your folks! -
What a beauty George! Not only are the details stunning and the overall proportion of a three decker is perfectly portrayed, also the spirit of a sailing warship in Mediterranean waters arises nicely. Greeting, Rudolf

Outstanding work! Is the grating cut by hand? It looks so crisp as if laser cut. Thank you for this phantastic log. Greetings , Rudolf

Workshop Vacuum cleaners
Rudolf replied to DaveBaxt's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
Hi Dave , I have recently acquired a Festool Midi shop Vac with a class M Filter. I runs very quietly, sucks great and the hose works like charm when I use it with my hand held circular saw. Pricey, but worth it , I should say. Greetings, Rudolf -

Hello Eberhard, Thank you very much for your inspirational postings. Do you think that your Little laser will be able to cut deck Planks, say 1,2 mm wide 6 cm Long out of Costello or maple veneer? Thank you. Greetings, Rudolf

Hi Grant,
Beautiful work, I admire your micro skills in metal work. Nicely executed pin rail too. The stanchion definitely look alright.
I would like to see some more pics of your progress.
Greetings,
Rudolf

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
