Your right, the Dragon looks like a baby compared to the Confed. You have a great start on her and I can't wait to watch her take shape and 16 bulkheads WOW!

Today, I decided that it would be better to get the Deck on, rather than finishing up the Cockpit. This way the Keel can be installed. I started by fairing the deck beams to the correct camber. I then cut out and installed the Deck. I then faired in the Deck with the Hull to 180 grit sandpaper. The boat will now be rigid enough to turn her upside down and install the Keel and Deadwood. Here are the results

Jesse,
I hope you start feeling bettter. As George said, there's no deadline.
I think there's merit to our critters knowing when we're ill or even upset. Our previous dog and our current one insist(ed) on snuggling up with which ever one of us was having a sick day or any kind of trauma. The new dog senses Janet having a bad pain day will just lay on her foot to let her know she's there.

A couple years ago when I had a flu-bug, my cat wanted to help!

Yes George, the cat & the dogs are very sensitive to this. The sicker (don't know if that is a proper word) I feel the closer they cling to me. One of our dogs will shove herself up under my bench even though there isn't really room for her under there on some of my bad days.

Sorry to hear about the "flair-up" Jesse, but there's no deadline on her. Just concentrate on getting well!
Edit: Your cat probably senses you're not feeling good!

This took several do-overs before I got it to look & fit right. During this process one night our cat decided she wanted to lay as close to me as possible. She jumps up on the bench, steps over the ship as I'm working on it & lays down right behind it. I picked her up & put her on the floor. She jumps right back up & lays her head down. I am getting soft as I get older. In my younger days this would have resulted in the cat getting a flying lesson. I gave in & left her there & worked around her the best I could since I wasn't going to work on it much longer anyway.

Been struggling to get much done. My illness has been acting up lately leaving me feeling pretty bad about 2/3 of the time making building difficult. I was about to start on the swivel brackets & pin rails. Looking at some others Syren build logs I see rudder coats being added. I tried to look up whether there was one on the Syren & found no info at all but I like what I see on the other builds so I decided I would do one too. I made a jig for making it off ship. Used an old bandana my daughter had thrown out. It will be painted black when done so it doesn't matter that it is pink right now. Began the process of trying to figure this out....

Elijah reacted to Rainbow in Corsair by Rainbow - OcCre - 1:80 - first wooden model kit
So after all I decide to follow what everyone said and fill some of the frames. Also I was finally able to manage to obtain 1 balsa wood stripe (1000x100x20 mm).
It's a lot easier and faster to work with it The only "problem" is cutting it with the blade might be a little bit picky since it's 20mm width but other than that is pretty easy
Also I reuse some of wood that remained
Also I'm expecting few more tools one of which is this one:
Do I still need to soak the stripes when using it (ended with them instead of the heat one kit that I posted before)?

What a beauty! I had no idea this ship model was this nice, and the author is doing a fantastic job on it. Model Expo should give him a few kudos for showing off their product in such a favorable and well deserved light. Excellent in every way.

Amazing website! An excellent way to show our hobby to an outsider. Also because linking to the build log directly is not possible (photos are not available for non-registered visitors), but now you have an external source. Bravo!

Hello all and thank you for your comments.
Here is another update - work continued on the beakhead.
Also for who might interest, these last days I completely rebuild my personal website: http://www.alexshipmodels.com - there is some new (old) material that was not posted before and the pictures size was greatly increased.
Thank you,
Regards
Alexandru

Back again. Completed the planking on the second half of the hull and sanded it back. The hulls look good and with no obvious differences in their shapes. The next task is to fill and finalise the shape including the stern. Then I will join the to halves, hopefully without problems. Then porthole placement, rubbing strakes and propellors etc. Then undercoat and topcoat. Not too much. Just a lot of patience, still it is preparing me for the big ships.

Those delicate wood pieces need a humidity percentage in the mid 40's. Go down into the 30% range or lower and cracks start. Most home "weather stations" have a relative humidity range displayed on them. I have one at each end of my house (a ranch style) and my forced hot air furnace has a humidifier attached to the plenum on the furnace. I maintain the whole house between 41 and 45% all winter.
Hope the framing recovers. It looks very good.

Pop a plastic sheet over the model and dish!

Thanks all, I have placed a shallow dish of water right next to the model now as a stop gap to try and alleviate some of the issue and stop it getting worse while I figure a way to fix long term.
Yancovitch - Yep, new 4 foot LED shoplights have been installed, for light quality, energy efficiency and long life.

Had the same with my model, and luckily the gaps closed completely as soon as humidity returned to the normal level and stayed there for a few days. But it was scary!
Your model is truly a museum-quality, and museum quality requires museum humidity controlling equipment Consider it as a compliment from mother nature

Sorry to hear about your humidity issues. But that will sort out with the 'right equipment'
I love your workshop, lots of space and light.

Wow Ben. Sorry to see that your having expansion problems. Hopefully getting the humidity
stabilized will keep it from happening again. On the good side that's a great looking workshop
you've got going there. Good luck.
