  1. Hi Mark and welcome to Model Ship World.
  2. I am deeply sorry to hear about Rodney’s passing. Your Astrolabe build will be a meaningful and heartfelt tribute to his memory.
  3. Welcome to Model Ship World Manuel. You picked a good kit for your first wooden ship model. Thanks for sharing your progress with us.
  4. Welcome to Model Ship World Friedie. Thanks for showing us your Lego build. These kits are more than just the basis building blocks.

  7. Congratulations on reaching this milestone. No apologies needed for your excitement. I would be jumping for joy if this were my model.
  8. Your Sherbourne is looking good. We all have instances where we say "why did I do that this way". There have been many times where I thought that I should have put more thought into doing a particular step on my model.
  9. Welcome to Model Ship World Peter. Once you start building your wooden ship model, you will have a lot of support from the members here on MSW. The Nautical Research Guild has a motto "taint a hobby if you gotta hurry". I have no doubt that you will do just fine in this hobby.
  10. Your workmanship and organization look great. Your model is going to turn out great.
  11. Hi Jim and welcome to Model Ship World. You have come to the right place to start your journey in building model ships.
  12. You are off to a good start. Should be an interesting build.
  13. Welcome to Model Ship World. It looks like you are off to a good start. I am glad you figured out the false deck fit problem. You definitely want to sand the deck after you have laid down the individual deck planks. I usually start with 150 grit, then progress to 240 grit and finish with 320 grit. Just take off enough wood to make the deck smooth. Good luck on your build.
  14. Beautiful job Tom. I hope to see this at the Northeast Joint Clubs Conference and Show in April.
  15. Congratulations on finishing your Dory. You did a good job on building this model. It looks so clean and crisp.
  16. Congratulations on finishing your Sherbourne build. It turned out really nice and I have enjoyed following your build log. Looking forward to your Harpy build.
  17. To see the build logs that you follow, you can click on the "More" button at the top of the page. It then gives you a list of options in the drop down box. Click on the "All content that I follow" and it will give you a list of the build logs that you follow.
  18. My method for threading line through holes in deadeyes and blocks is to put some CA glue on the end of the line, maybe about 1/4" worth. Then wipe it off of the line. Once the CA is dry, take a hobby knife and cut the CA soaked end on an angle. This hardened end is then threaded through the deadeye or block. Works every time for me.
  19. Thanks Mary for translating these posts. Members, please remember that Model Ship World is an English language forum. Please use a translator if you write your post in a language other than English. Thank you.
  20. Congratulations Ben on finishing your Winchelsea. It is a beautiful model and a work of art. I have enjoyed following your build log.
  21. Hi middlyjohn and welcome to Model Ship World. Sounds like you are off to a good start in building wooden ship models. There are three ship modeling clubs in the Chicago area. Two meet using Zoom, with one also having in person meetings. The other club meets in person only as the Club's meeting venue does not support Zoom.
  22. Hi Dale and welcome to Model Ship World.
