  1. She's definitely a soft coal burner, with that plume. Hard coal -anthracite- was a major mining industry on the east branch of the Susquehanna and was a major home heating fuel back then. When the US Navy was building dreadnoughts, they began buying hard coal to remove the giveaway smoke plumes, since there was a lot of it available.
  2. Your Comet turned out nicely, Phil. The weathering suits it well.
  3. Flattery will get you everywhere! 😁 I sure do miss the bird and the lifestyle. The jet was assigned almost every task under the sun and was considered a master of none. The ordnance flight manuals we had were the biggest ones by weight. We carried everything in the inventory that fit on a fighter, so the ballistic manuals had to match. Weren't too many parts of that book I didn't use. Hope you all had a nice Memorial Day. Remember the folks who died getting us to where we are today.
  4. Crushed walnut shells were also used to clean jet engines. The GE J-79 engines in F-4s and various other military jet aircraft were cleaned with them.
  5. Thanks to steam exhaust products, like cinders and gases given off by coal combustion, the areas around rights of way were fairly denuded of any foliage. The diesel transition started the recovery of the forests near the tracks.
  6. Looks like you have just the correct amount of tension on those chains. We'll sit here waiting to hear the sprong of the tension. 🤞 And it looks like you have a leg up on your starboard side weathering. 😉
  7. Amen, Chris. Nice to see your crew deployed around the boat and especially their back stories. We did that in the papermill on our club layout and the visitors liked to read the vignettes.
  8. You could use a ratter dog, some kind of terrier. Wise move on quitting smoking; I lost several relatives, including my Mom, to smoking. Lula is looking good, but as some have said, it needs some clutter.
  9. Opened fine on my HP and the links worked well. Running Windows 11 and Adobe Acrobat
  10. Good luck with your doctor, Keith. Hope it all gets resolved safely. We're rooting (and praying) for you.
  11. Excellent work on your engine. Looks like it just came out of a shipping crate. 👍
  12. Very plausible explanation for the "flying" mast. Blame it on the cat. Maybe my launching of parts into interdemensional space has the wee people snatching them? 🤔 Iron Duke turned out well, Alan. 👍
  13. That's some big model, Phil. I have a few hours in these beasts, since we converted to them from F-4s. Job was OK, the operating locations were fun spots, usually.
  14. Turkey ended up with a good number of my unit's F-4Es back in 1991. I missed the delivery flights because I was the trial WSO to go to tanker school at Castle AFB, CA. Later on, when we were in Pisa, supporting the shenanigans in Bosnia, the Turkish F-4s sported our nose art of the Tiger heads. The rest of the markings reflected the Turkish AF. I look forward to seeing your build of one of those Z-M Phantoms. 😁
  15. Mine, too, OC. A simple and quick procedure, no skin grafts required. We spent more time sitting in the waiting room than the actual procedure. Busy clinic.
  16. He's a long time supplier to the model rr folks. Supplies a craftsman kind of kit with very good instructions. Lots of cutting and fitting.
