  1. Rob, very nicely done. The Ma👍rlboro scheme is classy.
  2. I believe your colors are appropriate for the mid 1700s. I refer to the decorations and paints used at Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia. They do extensive research in that pre-American Revolutionary period.
  3. Roden is hit or miss for their kits. Popeye/Denis has built some and he has had similar issues. Unfortunately for us builders, they make some interesting subjects.
  4. That's pretty much what I've seen and heard about painting resin kits. I just got a freight car in a 3D print. Cleanup was removing sprue/print finger artifacts and a wash in Dawn and warm water. The resin felt sticky right out of the box. Tamiya fine primer to cover. Some paints don't stick to these resins, so why take a chance as you discovered with this body..
  5. Craig, did this gentleman say what type of resin had this issue. I've shot Tamiya primers onto styrourethane resin with no reaction. Maybe he's talking about the resins used in 3D printing. The resins I've worked with have been generally from flat molds, so older type resins. I do have a few new cars that are 3D prints, but they're not ready for paint yet. Then again. I'm not using the more exotic paints on a railroad freight car. Rusty reds, grimy blacks and assorted grays. 😎
  6. He's gutsy, not being tied onto that infernal drone. Or in communication with the .... drone pilot. Hope he's got a parachute. 😁
  7. Gutsy move, Mike. Glad it all fit together. The Czechs are really good with their aftermarket aircraft parts. This is shaping up well.
  8. Your build is progressing nicely. You're most fortunate to find those tiny details. Most usually sail off to another dimension.
  9. I think you got the idea across with this one, Rob. Really nicely done.👍
  10. I was #5, based on birthdays, in the 1969 draft lottery, but since I was in AF ROTC, I took the money in our house pot and bought a keg. Well, I graduated in June '70 and went off to get my wings, forgetting the old lottery. I was in the midst of checking out in the Phantom and had already been promoted to real Lieutenant. My dad called one night, laughing and said you've been drafted, Lieutenant. I had him send me the paperwork to see what this silliness was. After I got that letter, I roamed around the base with my front-seater Clay, one day and filled out some form and Clay signed it. Clay was already a Captain. Never heard from them again.
  11. Alan, think I'll tag along to see this build. I've seen their aftermarket goodies, but never a full build.
  12. I've still got my old K+E slip stick from college and a couple of circular ones from my flying career. 😉
  13. That is one good looking car, Yves. Well done.
  14. Thanks for filling in some of the blanks, EG. I've been dealing with the various forms of resin used in modeling and the current polyurethane resin used to cast in molds and the resins used in 3D printing are safe. It can be brittle, so be careful while working with it.
  15. OC, the quality of the resin prints and castings are so much better now that the amount of sanding is reduced from earlier models. Spaceman Spiff's ship, in modern kit builds, is an example of the older resin pours, which needed a lot of sanding to remove the over-pour. The over-pour nubs made for a lot of dust and the dust was an irritant for breathing. Well fit dust masks were required. Greg, sorry for the hijack, but resin kits are a bigger part of the hobby now. Carrying over some old wive's tale will make people shy away from using this newer medium. Thank you for the opportunity to spread the truth.
  16. Always fun (?) cleaning up these resin kits, between the mold -release agent, excess flash and the printer "fingers" or attachment points. What did you use to remove the fingers from the parts?
  17. Glad to hear your abode is once again weather tight. My area was pretty fortunate that we didn't have the widespread flooding, but a few friends up in the Swannanoa area (east of Asheville) are driving miles to get to operational stores. Oddone turned out nicely. I looked up frangipane and it's an almond flavored pastry filling.
  18. Can't wait to see how you turn this into another jewel, Craig. These car kits are so neat. They beat the daylights out of the old AMT and MPC kits from the 60s.
