  1. Michael: Thanks for the kind words. Down here, these small boats used to be everywhere. Now, there may be a handful of them laying around. I was lucky to get to record the few that I did several years ago. Russ
  2. Michael: When you load a jpeg, do you scale the image afterwards to make it larger? I have to scale the uploaded image to get it to the proper size. Russ
  3. Keith: I just looked at the templates I sent you but I see no cut in the middle of the top of the formers. I have the centerline marked on each former. That is the vertical line down the center of the formers. But the formers are flat across their tops. That is the flat bottom of the boat. Russ
  4. I will second recommendations for both Model Shipways and Bluejacket. Both market a good product and will stand behind that product. Bluejacket has some of the best parts and supplies on the market right now. Their prices are steep because they are, as you can see in that photograph, a small, family owned company. However, nearly everything they sell is made in house. Russ
  5. I use ACAD 2000i and I have been able to trace over imported raster files and then redraw those lines to fair them, create construction templates, and then scale them for printing. No real issues. I wonder why you cannot trace over a drawing with ACAD Lt 2000? Russ
  6. Michael: Very nice finish on the deck. The caulking lines look very good. Excellent work. It does look like the real thing. Russ
  7. Ron: Nice work on the sheaves and the scuppers. It is never easy to drill and cut into that nice planking job. Yours came out well. I looked once at some nice coping saws from Contenti. I might have to go back and look again. Russ
  8. On the measurements, I think that you should get them as close as you can, but at the end of the day, making adjustments and such is something we all have to do at one time or another. I think you are making the right calls so far. Have fun. Russ
  9. Alfons: This model is just beautiful. You are making a wonderful piece out of the kit. I really like the dory. That is a nice little model in itself. Thanks for bringing this build log back. Russ
  10. Grant: Outstanding work on your cross section. Your cannons are looking mighty good. I like the metal work you are doing. Nice job. Russ
  11. Ron: Nice work all the way around, but especially on the stem. I like the way you cut and fitted it. I need to become better acquainted with my coping saw, In fact, I need to get a better coping saw. Russ
  12. Bob: The metal work is really nice. The attention to detail you are using is just wonderful. Regarding the cleats, I always pin mine with a bamboo dowel. It is easy enough to do, but then I am one who actually likes making bamboo dowels. Russ
  13. Bob: Very nice work on the planking and ceiling. You are making good progress. Russ
  14. Alfons and Gerty: Thanks for looking in and for your kind words. Russ
  15. Keith: Thanks for the kind words. The hawse pipe is around 5/32" along its length. No carved chain. That will be good old fashioned brass or copper. Russ
  16. That is great. Now, all we need is one here where I live. Russ
  17. You are making good progress. It is coming along well. Russ
  18. I understand perfectly. This is a good way to to begin. What company did your lasrer cutting? It looks very good. Russ
  19. That is a good idea. I learn a lot about a hull form by building a solid hull model. Russ
  20. Elia: The paintwork looks great to my eye. Nice work. Russ
  21. Ah. I did not understand it either. I do not have any need of 3D modeling so I just use CAD to draw everything. Russ
  22. If you mean what I am using to draw the plans and templates, then it is ACAD. I am using an older version of it, 2000i. It does everything I need it to do to get from the computer screen and into the workshop. Russ
  23. I use ACAD and I also do all of my drawings before building. I look forward to seeing your progress. Russ
  24. The planking at the bow came out beautifully. That is really nice work. Russ
