Angarfather got a reaction from tarbrush in Golden Hind ex Pelican by Angarfather - 1:36
I have started the next project, an elizabethanian galleon.
I use some plans I did find in two old german modeling books, Mondfeld, Historische Schiffsmodelle, a german classic from the early 70., and Stoeckel,Risse von Schiffen des 16. und 17. Jahrhunderts. Both authors showed very similar plans of an elizabethanian galleon, named Golden Hind or ex Pelican. It may be a model of Drakes Golden Hind. How Golden Hind looked exactly is unclear. But I like the plans, and they also seems quite right for the type Galeone of the english sailors in the time of queen Elizabeth Tudor.
Fist step was to modify the slipway. For the aligning of the frames on the keel plate I use a cross line laser
The plans
The bulkheads
Mounting of the bulkheads on the keel plate
The shipyard guard (named Michel ) after work
cheers! Hartmut

Hello Nils!
absolut amazing work.
After several weeks in which I didn't feel well I had to undergo bile surgery. But now its all right again so I'am back in the dockyard and the forum.
Best regards Hartmut

Thank you, guys for all your kind words.
There are only the stern lantern and the decorations of the gun ports to make to finish Utrecht. Therefore I have started the next project, an elizabethan galleon. It may be a model of Drakes Golden Hind. How Golden Hind looked exactly is unclear. I will use some plans I did find in two old german modeling books.
Okay now I will start the new build log.
Cheers Hartmut

Here are some pics of the current state of the model. The decoration figures are made of polymer clay. To make the figurehead was very fiddly. The lion of the full sized Utrecht in my eyes looks like a cartoon. But a very nice one. Iwasn't able to reproduce it in my model.
Lets have a look around the pavillon
Even the two water gods at the pavillion are rather strange guys than baroque gods. But,I did my very best.

Update :
the place on deck is becoming scarce and I wanted to fit two elm-tree pumps (bilge water up and out )....
so the decision was to fit two tubes down through the decks but to fit a common double pump on it. The outlet chanels are still missing.
Further the port side anchor cableis rigged to the spill and the preliminary bit timbers at the foremast.... The boat rests above the spill on the two cradle racks and anchor cables

Hi Carl,
yes, I`m glad I went for scale 1:48 its a very nice scale for details adding details, and its fun on top of it....
I`m trying on the first sample of the swivel gun and its mounting post this morning
Nils
this is one of the smallest RB barrels with predrilled pivot- and center hole. The soldering hole for the handle must still be brought in to the barrel
the semi round support is made from a brass tube...
I`ll probably blacken the guns with dull black gun color paint

Note: I gave the wrong info on the potato. There are 2800 varieties of potatoes in Peru. The other 200 are available in the rest of the world. We visited a market and there were so many on display. There is even one that is completely dry which has a very long shelf life. Just soak in water, heat up and eat. Great for camping and the space station.
Lots of good food. Peru has 3 climate ranges. So they grow both temperate and tropical foods.

Finished the lower and upper cheeks and together with my orc (lion) glued it together. Still need to add the top cheek rail. The bow is difficult project. Lots of trail and error.
Glued 4 quarter inch cherry dowels together and started sanding the windlass.

It was an awesome vacation and Machu Picchu is an amazing feat when it comes to architecture and engineering. Stone building blocks for structures are without mortar and fitted so well together, you can't slide a credit card between them.
Back to the boat, glued all the carvings on the pavilion and started working on the figurehead. Made a frame from brass and molded the sculpey around it. Baked and filled it to show the parts of the body.
It does not look like a lion, more like a fierce Sci Fi creature. Maybe an Orc. I like it. I will paint it with the same colors as the lion. Working on the shield it is holding. The pins will be painted cobalt blue and glued in the crown. They are now showing where they will go.

Update :
planking completed, except for that of the the uppest stern grating deck....., one of the side rails put on, but not complete yet, stand stained in cherry wood color, and bow- and stern post fitted....
Nils
the pencil-line marking (waterline) is marked all around, the underwater ship wil prbably be painted white later on....

Keith,
next to the fresh-water barrel, this one is also one of the utmost important barrels on board....

With other words: time for modelling or time for posting. But now I will show you Utrecht today and of course some of the work steps .
