  1. Thank you every one JP, only 40 hours in car! Definitive build? I do not know Definitive set of plans? Surely not, but the good side from the bad side, it is interesting to try to figure the missing parts! Gaetan
  2. Detail on the second picture; In certain cases, drawing must be fitted to fit the space.
  3. Carabrente, you are doing a very nice job.
  4. Lextin, I tried different models, and if one day you want to try one which works very well try that one from Lee Valley.
  5. I do not use any more this type of saw. In comparison with this one which is of the sae size: http://www.leevalley.com/fr/Wood/page.aspx?p=58686&cat=1,42884,68904&ap=1 it does not works very much efficiently because sharpening is only done on 1 face.
  6. thicker planking has to continue upwards in the bow area like Belle Poule, Bonhomme Richard ? It would not be useful to make it thinner ! It was the french way to protect when fishing the anchor.
  7. Hi Bruce, One of the reasons I wanted to have a chart was to save time. The biggest diameter anchor cable I turned with more than 500 linen threads size 090 was estimated with the table and worked very well.
  8. Bruce, the relationship between number of strands and diameter is not directly proportionnal. You should observe instead a progression with an hyperbola curve. It was recently discussed in this thread. http://modelshipworld.com/index.php/topic/9002-rope-making-question/
  9. Thank you Mark. Actually, I like to learn to take photography on a white background. They use this type of photos when they want to sell a product in the commerce. Here is an example.
  10. Some flowers for Christmas. Parts in the first picture are almost longer to prepare than to carve.
  11. A good one will cut hardwood up to 1 inch thick... and always at 90 degrees
  12. Sorry for your problem, I tried it just before to write it and did not have any problem.
  13. Is there a formula or table of what size threads to use to make rope of a given size? In MSW 1.0 there was an excel file providing that, it was looking like this; With the number of threads, you can calculate the diameter automatically. I still have a copy if you are interested.
  14. Elsbeere from Germany: pearwood from Germany, if I remember correctly.
  15. When you use a bench grinder, you also need a cooling bucket. The finer the stone, the finer the results will be. Angle adjustment to present the cutter is a very big helper A diamond wheel can produces a mirror finish in seconds. On this wheel, diamonds are on the side of the wheel. The other grinder is uses to cut metal part and a deburring wheel very effective also for a mirror finish.
  16. 50% of all the bathrooms on the ship in less than 50 hours.
  17. Carabrente, as 1 part, it is difficult, and for this reason, it is not made in 1 part. By adding many small easy parts, you can make 1 big difficult part.
  18. Hi Carabrente, other pictures; page 11,12, 13 also pictures from: http://modelisme.arsenal.free.fr/jacquesmailliere/
  19. some moldings on the side, a lot easier to do on the milling
  20. Makore is a wood I am allergic to, effect on breathing when sawdust.
  21. Hi Nigel, Interesting facts, considering the enormous amount of money involved the king had to grant for the construction, it would be reasonable to think that they found a way to give an idea of the look of the model before the realisation of the ship to help the king to take a decision.
  22. Thank you for your comments I installed all the top rails painted black. I had enough to see walls in the aft section waving. I tried to straighten since few months without success. Frames in the aft section are tapering from looking face and side view too. If I would have known before I would not have tapered from side view even if drawings were showing it.
