Now was time to yellow wood glue the carriage together, wipe it all down with TACK CLOTH to remove all the dust particles, and finally prime the wood with GESSO SURFACE PREP.  This is a white water base coating that dries to the touch quite quickly, but I let it sit over night.
Some of the grains popped out a bit (swollen) and a few feathery bit poked out.  I like the look of the wood grain but the feathery bits need to be removed.

As for the finish coat colour of the carriage, I've seen them painted grey, red, black, brown, and left bare. Mine was to be YELLOW OCHRE in colour as I've read that this was the original colour of the ship's gun carriages for the time (ref: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2583165/Nelsons-flagship-HMS-Victory-true-colours-blue-deck-none-hideous-orange.html).  The very first photo at the beginning of this build and the following image are the proof.  Unfortunately I found Yellow Ochre to be too brown for me, and so after some testing I went with Naples Yellow Hue which is slightly less brown and more yellow.  I used Liquidtex Professional Heavy Body Acrylic series 2 paint.

All fittings will be black and the TRUCKS (wheels) will be left bare.

The display case is under construction, and coming along nicely. Here are a couple of in progress up dates. The drawer will hold the book and a CD of the build

Just a few minor tweaks and then the stain will be applied.

Kmart, I hope you enjoy the book when you get it. Also just FYI I noticed the way you have positioned your grates. I laser cutting the true dimension is on the bottom side of the carrier sheet which also results in minor draft which increases with the thickness of the wood sheet. If you turn your grates upside down you will have the "good" side up. This also applies when setting bulkhead frames with the angles (usually 1/4" thick wood) setting forward and rearward to get the cut angle to work with you and less sanding required. Keep up the great work you are doing, more fun lies ahead. Keep in mind on the deck plan view the stern starboard side is greater from the centerline than the port side on the spar deck. Just check the plan layout to justify the planking when you get to that point. You can see this called out in my build.

After studying the plans and ship photos I started rigging the bowsprit doing the central lines first before doing the yard lines. Here are some pictures showing some of the rigging details.

Now onto the yard lines. I think the bowsprit is the more difficult of the rigging to be done.

I moved on to the foot ropes and tied off the knots by starting in the center of the rope and spaced them down to the end of the jib allowing the space for a clove hitch and more knots tied down to the eyebolt on the cap. Once one side was completed I duplicated the second side.

    Tied in place.

Now I added the bow sprit yard by turning the tapered ends on the lathe leaving an area for the chocks to be carved once the turning was completed. I used the combination slide which has a 2 inch travel enough to do the ends. I made an end holder out of brass rod to maintain a center when turning. Once turned and the chocks carved it was stained black, them the bulls eye guides were added per the plans.

Here is the finished yard tied in place ready for rigging.

Now to rig more lines now that the yard is in place.

She is crated and packed in the car ready to leave in the morning. It will ride on a 1" layer of energy absorbing foam with 3" of clearance above the main mast. I had to tilt at about a 30 degree angle to clear the door opening and the roof has a bulge up that allowed space for the masts. The sides of the frame had to be short into order to clear and rotate back up to fit with the car side wall camber. Everything is snug and tight.
Now all we have to do is leave in the morning and drive to the end of Long Island, NY.

I removed the central hatch cover and tied down across at the rails, trapped fore and aft by the cradle nesting.

Created a little pocket for the hatch cover with the pinnace.

Here it is with the honey comb cardboard sheet between the frame structure and the gear.

Wish us luck on our delivery adventure!

Something else is also going as well, I see what looks like a drip spot from a liquid on the base wood surface. Could drastic swings in temperature cause moisture condensation on the anchor with enough buildup to drip over time?
I have also see this type of corrosion on parts using blackening agents and not being rinsed thoroughly with water after being treated. This usually starts in a hole or recess in a part.

Dave, the doctors have told me that my youth is catching up with me having disintegrating disks L3 through L7 along with arthritis in both my left knee and hip. For the past few years model building has been my method of pain management and it does work.

Keep up the great work you are doing!

Tom, that was the reason I made the boat cradle removable so that I could tie down the ship for transport. Lucky that it will only be a nose job. Nice new digs to work in.
