    Gary, the arrangement of the wheel made no sense to me when I was doing my build. It still doesn't. I asked on my original log if anyone had an answer and I got a response that Bob Hunt's kit used rigging that in my view would have rendered the cabin unusable. In short, I don't know the answer. Bob

    The standing rigging looks great Ken. The lines look to be at a proper tension. The last thing you want is to have them so tight that they pull the masts out of alignment or don't allow for changes due to temperature or humidity variations. Bob

I'd love to see you do the scratch build at 1:64. Since I've scratch built almost everything, there are days when I wish that I had done that. Bob

    Thanks so much Dirk, Ken, John, Sjors and Frolick for the very kind comments and also the"likes". Ken, I got boxwood and holly strip and sheet from Hobbymill to do this build. I have neither the capability nor the desire to cut my own. You are quite right that I have a big pile of unused basswood from this and previous builds -- seems like almost enough to go into business .

    Good news and bad news: First the bad news -- after beating my head against the wall trying to do the cathead supports and eking, I decided to take a time-out. The good news is that I did do the lower rail and then decided to do other work on the head ( the gratings, ledges, knees, boomkin chocks). Apart from the grating, which is a laser cut kit part finished with golden oak stain, all of the other parts were made from boxwood strip.The lower rail is a two part lamination to create the molding. I will now return to the cathead supports and eking. Bob

    Another couple of steps forward on the head ( not without a number of steps backward and sideways in the process). The main rail with its timber head and the head timbers and their cross pieces have been made and installed. The rails are laminated boxwood strip, bent and sanded to shape, following the templates provided by Sam Cassano. The head timbers are the laser cut kit pieces, modified to fit. Next will be the lower rail, eking and cathead supports. These should provide even more redos than the work just completed. Bob

    Thanks for the info Frolick. I went on line to do some research on McIntire and I see what you mean about his figures (at least the few photos I found of figureheads). The simplicity of facial features should suit my lack of carving talent well. Bob

    I know that some have a problem with using CA, but I've had CA joints that have held up perfectly for 20+ years. Bob
