I'm in AZ and used to live in Pittsburgh 20 years ago. Still a loyal Steelers fan.

markjay reacted to James H in Review comment etiquette
Hi all,
When we post a review of a tool or kit at MSW, we do so objectively. We aren't obliged to write a glowing review as we have gotten a 'freebie' as some folk would assume (not on MSW I would hasten to add), but we are expected to be both critical and constructive. If we see limitations, then we mention them. We get some really good comments, questions and replies to these articles, which have taken time to create, and also at a cost to the vendor.
What we would kindly ask, in the interests of forum etiquette, is that any talk is limited to the item reviewed and its availability, and not onto links to competitor items which is grossly unfair to the company that wishes to see their products honestly assessed/critiqued, including good/bad feedback about the item from someone who has made a purchase.
Thanks,
Jim

"No way around building Kufu's boat now. It will also serve as an 'extension' to my review, e.g., the kit calls for rounding the provided square stock to support the canopy framework over the cabin. This seems a lot of work - so they could have provided round stock, since MANY of these verticals are needed and individually rounding them can result in irregularities unless one uses a draw-plate (presuming the square stock is straight grained). As mentioned, the original posts have lotus heads that I'd like to include - ergo the idea of turning bamboo skewers. Obviously the kit can be simply built 'as is' and get a nice looking result, but I'd like to do better."
Round tooth picks worked well for the supports, they are slightly tapered and I found give the right effect.

markjay got a reaction from Ryland Craze in Help with slack rigging
Even here in Arizona with very low humidity rigging can sag during our Monsoon season (rainy season). What I learned to do is let the line stretch out, I hang mine with a light weight on the end. As well as a 50/50 coating of water and white glue. Seems to work for me.

markjay reacted to hollowneck in Chris Watton and Vanguard Models news and updates
I have a solution! Purchase these for your wife this Holiday Season. Tell her they're trending on Instagram and are VERY fashion-forward. An important step before gifting: carefully adjust the diopter controls so that your model appears to be less than half it's actual size...I think these special glasses are mainly sold as a dieting option, however, they would be worth a try!

Hi all,
I responded to Mike about the article which I hand in my file. I checked with Kurt about posting it, he in turn checked with the author. The author has granted permission to post the article. I hope it proves helpful with your decking questions. I've attached a PDF, enjoy.
